Re: Rock Star Birthdays
Ahhh...also today (according to Rolling Stone) we should be celebrating the birthdays of PATTI LABELLE (60) and ROSEANNE CASH (daughter of the late Johnny Cash), 49, too! So, a most to those ladies, as well as to dear old Bob!

Re: Rock Star Birthdays
Ahhh....and he's not a rock star (though he did dabble in rock), but a pioneer of sorts in the jazz world--May 25th is the birthday of the late, great Miles Davis!!! Born in 1926, Miles would have been celebrating his 78th!!!
Have a great one, Miles!!! We love ya!!!

Re: Rock Star Birthdays
Ahh...I forgot one! (Had it covered, did I? Well...almost...but now I think I do!)
Today is also the b-day of the great Al Jolson (that's going back a ways!!!) to a wonderful man, who gave us so much great music, and also made the first talking film ever--the Jazz Singer. Al would have been an incredibly young 118 years of age today--he was born in 1886! !
Love ya Jolie!!! Have a great one!!!

Re: Rock Star Birthdays
Ah....one more birthday to celebrate today, dear Rahill!!! My father just e-mailed me a reminder about this one....
Today is also the birthday of the late, great George Formby! Mr Banjouke himself! He was a major British recording star back in the 30's and 40's and had quite a following back then, and still does today (my father being one of his die-hard fans!) There are many groups the world over dedicated to the man (The George Formby Society, for one!) Ah, and, it is a little known fact that our dear George Harrison was a die-hard fan, and he even owns (well, owned--they belong to GH's family now) a few of Formby's banjoukes (coveted items among Formby fans)!!! And, his very last gig (this is a secret) was for the big George Formby convention... Wow...
Anyway, today would have been Formby's 100th birthday (born in Wigan, Lancashire, England), and ukulele/banjouke enthusists all over the world are celebrating his life!!!
I'm sure that I will be hearing about his birthday all evening...may even be treated to watching a Formby film or two, and will probably be treated to banjouke music all night!
Here are some photos of the b-day lad:
(ah, not the most handsome man....)
(he's jamming!)
(trying to look appealing to the ladies with the his prized banjouke...trying...and not making it! !)
.............
By the way, some of his great hits include:
Leaning on a Lamp Post (Herman's Hermits later covered that one!), With My Little Stick of Blackpool Rock, Mr. Wu's a Window Cleaner Now, When I'm Cleaning Windows, Wonder Who's Under Her Balcony Now?, You Don't Need A Licence For That, I Did What I Could With Me Gas Mask, and It's Turned Out Nice Again. Some pretty daring titles for those days...
So.... a Big to you, George!!! Love ya!!!:)

So, to you, Mal!!!
Thanks for being there for the boys all those years!!!
