Default Who\'s Song?

What song did John write for May Pang and what song did John have in mind when he started writing it?

Could it be "Surprise, Surprise (Sweet Bird Of Paradox)"?

I can't give you the point just yet because that's only half of the answer I'm looking for.

Well then give me 0,5 points...

I'll try a wild guess... If it was a Beatle song, it could have been "Ticket To Ride"...

It was not a Beatles song John was thinking of when he wrote "Surprise Surprise (Sweet Bird Of Paradox)". The song in question came out before the Beatles hit the big time.

The song John wrote was "Surprise Surprise (Sweet Bird of Paradox)." Was the song he was thinking of "Sweet Little Sixteen"?

Does ANYBODY know the answer? Did John tell you it by himself?

I wish he had told me personally, but the fact is the song in question comes from a book on John. If no correct answer by tomorrow at this time, I'll make this a two-pointer.

As if the two points will help...

Another thing, what do you consider the time that the Beatles started to 'hit the big time'. Probably the songs is from before 1962/3.

Just need some guidance here cause this is a very tough one.

Don't have the book, but just think the song in mind might be "Take good care of my baby."

Well, darkhorse did respond first with the correct song that John wrote for May, "Surprise Surprise (Sweet Bird Of Paradox)", so I think he should get one point for that.
Part II: The song John had in his mind at the time was released back in 1957. According to Billboard, it was the biggest song not to reach #1 that year.

No correct answer yet. I can't give anymore hints without giving away the answer. Just remember a #2 song from 1957.

It looks as though no one's gonna get the correct answer here. I have finally stumped everyone.
John wrote "Surprise Surprise (Sweet Bird Of Paradox)" for May Pang. The song going through John's mind at the time was the Diamond's "Little Darlin'".
