Comparing EMI to Capitol, vinyl to cd
Part of my Beatles music interest is comparing the
1. 1963 - 1970 vinyl lps of Capitol vs EMI
2. 1987 EMI cds vs the 1963-1970 EMI vinyl lps
3. 2004-2006 Capitol cds to the corresponding Capitol vinyl lps
4. 2004-2006 Capitol cds to the 1987 EMI cds
5. 2000 cd 1 vs everything
What I am getting into is pretty involved. I suspect and hope that others have already written about what I am asking. Could anyone please provide book titles and or any links to where I can read and learn about the questions below.
Before starting, what is the difference between remix and remastered?
The 1963 - 1970 Capitol and EMI Vinyl- Did EMI issue more than one version of the same lp, with different takes and or mixings
- Did Capitol issue lps that were different (takes and or mixings) from a corresponding EMI lp ? In the same thread, did Capitol issue different versions of the same Capitol lp? I have heard of but never heard the Dexter reverb mix of Rubber Soul
- Is the sound quality of the EMI lps better than Capitol's
The 1987 EMI cds vs the 1963-1970 EMI vinyl lps
- How did the remixing each cd differ from the corresponding lp. I did see on the internet that some Canadian outfit accidentally issued some cds with the original mix.
3. 2004-2006 Capitol cds to the corresponding Capitol vinyl lps
- Were any takes on the cds different from the vinyl
- How did the remix differ from the vinyl
4. 2004-2006 Capitol cds to the 1987 EMI cds
- Are there different takes
- How do the remixes compare and differ
5 1 cd vs the rest- Is this a different mix from the EMI vinyl and the 1987 cds? I loaded the 1 cd into my computer and compared the sound waves to some 1987 cds the wave shape is different
