I hated the Carpenters' covers of Beatle songs and thought their covers were singularly atrocious.

LOL... BB knows what she likes and hates.

I loved Karen's voice, their arrangements were not always my taste but often they hit the mark.

Carpenters are far from me in all sense. I always enjoy Kind of HUsh but their Beatles covers are strange at least.

Karen had a great voice and she did alright with Help! but Ticket To Ride needed more work done to it.

Don't forget "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft" that they covered by Klaatu. How does this figure in, you ask? Well, in 1976 some people believed the Beatles had secretly recorded an album under the name Klaatu. It was the height of Beatle reunion fever and some people believed it for about 5 minutes. They were actually a Canadian band.

Yep. I remember seeing a picture of Ringo in a 'Goodnight Vienna' promo wearing a pin that had 'Klaatu Barada Niktu' on it.

Maybe its just me, but I still do not see how this relates to the Carpenters?

But yes, I recall in '77 when the fervor and speculation reached a fever pitch on a local Cleveland Radio station, WMMS, only to be discounted a day later. But, I seem to recall it was later in the year.

How bizarre!

Now lets see if it connects with Kevin Bacon.

Well, there was Pigs In Space. Anyways, I don't know what possessed them to do this but the defense rests:

All 6 degrees:

1) Klaatu is on the album cover with Ringo Starr.
2) Ringo Starr was in "Princess Daisy" with Stacey Keach.
3)Stacey Keach was in "Up in Smoke" with Cheech Marin.
4) Cheech Marin was in "Once Upon A Time In Mexico" with Johnny Depp.
5) Johnny Depp was in "Benny & Joon" with Aidan Quinn.
6) Aidan Quinn was in "Cavedweller" with Kevin Bacon.

Nicely done!! I took the lazy way(s)

--Ringo was in 'A Hard Day's Night' (1964) with Phil Collins.
Phil Collins was in 'Balto' (1995) with Kevin Bacon.

Lazier? Okay:

Both Ringo and Kevin Bacon were victims of Bernie Madoff's Ponzi schemes.
