Argh! I'll be in school...unless I'm "sick" tomorrow...heh heh heh.

Do you think there's a chance someone will record it and put it on Youtube or something like that?

I 'll try to attend this if possible. Although I am not really sure what to inquire. I think only certain questions will get submitted to him through a moderator, at least that is how it was previously done. There is going to be too many people there to get their voices heard.

So the chat just finished, it's 12.30am here and I stayed up just to be a part of it. So good, Paul chatting with the band standing with him. They also showed a couple clips from Good Evening New York City. Towards the end was particularly great, Paul briefly forgot people needed to use computers to watch the chat (he's forgiven though because one, he's from the pre-computer gen and second, he's our Paulie), and Abe started wetting himself over it.

He left with a very vague message - "you may hear rumours about a white house. So if you hear anything about a 'white house', remember, you heard it here first."

I couldn't figure out if it was at noon or 1pm eastern time, but luckily I remembered to check a few minutes after noon and caught most of it. It was kind of cool, except the chat thing didn't work right.

I also heard the thing about white house. That might mean that he is going to the U.S. White House in Washington, DC (or it could mean that he is painting his house white, but why would he tell us that, lol). If anybody hears anymore about the "white house" thing, please let us know!!!

I know what you mean about the chat! Every time I put in my login details the entire chat box would just disappear and wouldn't load. Very buggy.

I haven't heard anything, but I know Paulie's a big Obama supporter, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's been invited to the White House to receive an award or something. We don't give knighthoods, but... maybe a Kennedy Center Honor?

That would be sweet.

I missed the chat because I was scoring my Paulie tickets. Also, I was at work. 0: )

Well I hope there's lots of coverage of that, whatever it will be! Performing at the WH would be the coolest. I remember George visiting the WH when Gerald Ford was President.

Funny thing about the Kennedy Center Honors. Paul WAS supposed to receive it in 2002 but had a schedule conflict. At the time, the line from the organizers was that he'd get it the following year. But he never did.

Since 2003, Elton John ('04), The Who's Pete Townsend and Roger Daltrey ('08) have gotten it. To me, it doesn't seem right, especially since these are Englishmen and the award usually goes to Americans. Paul shoulda been first! Elton and The Who have The Beatles to thank for paving the way in America. Was there a falling out between Paul and the organizers? I'd love to know.

Well, if they ever decide to give him the honor, he deserves the whole hour--or whatever it is--to himself!! No ballet dancers or old corny comedians should go in with him!
In fact, the whole Beatles family (Ringo, Yoko, Olivia, the kids) should be given the honor!

I have no evidence for this assertion, but I have always suspected that Paul's scheduling conflict of 2002 had a political motive... he just could not accept the award from whatshisname... oh yeah, Bush. At least that's what I like to think... cuz Paulie's cool that way.

FINALLY! I've been waiting for some kind of announcement on this (even if its just a vague hint).

Maybe this should be in its own topic but Paul was awarded the Gershwin Award by the US Library of Congress months ago.
Last year's winner, Stevie Wonder, played for the Obama's and even sang a little bit of "Michelle" for the first lady.
I think it was on PBS in the US but I'm not sure about international broadcasts.

Sounds like its not something you can purchase tickets for but I guess when they announce a date I may have to camp out in front the White House that day.

Here's the wikipedia page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gershwin_Prize

The announcement of the award for Paul in November
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...111502797.html

also, there was a DVD made for Paul Simon's Gershwin performance 2 years ago.
http://www.musicbox-online.com/revie...-gershwin.html
apparently they even showed the duet he did with George.

I am no fan of Bush and I applaud your post.

In 2001, Paul said he felt people should respect their president. I interpret that to mean respect the office, but if the person in that position does not comport himself in a way you CAN respect or whose stand is diametrically opposed to yours on salient issues, then that is another story.

As for being an Obama supporter, that makes me smile. In 2008 I flew over 1,000 miles out of state to support Obama and when I wasn't at home or at work, I was at Obama HQ campaigning tirelessly.

Paul has a social conscience, which is not suprising as that is a human condition. I realize this segued into politics and I will get back to where we once belonged - Paul! I wish he was playing in my area. Luckily I got to see him in August. He was a 2 1/2 hour Greyhound ride away.

Go, Greyhound!

Well, if that was the case Maia66, way to go Sir Paul!
So, now's the ideal time. Could it be a combo Kennedy Center Honor, WH concert?? That would be awesome!

A group of people on an anti-war march had plenty of sobriquets to apply to Watshisname aka Dumbya. Having respect for the office is one thing. If the person does not comport himself in a way that commands respect and whose stand on issues is diametrically opposed to yours, then that precludes the possibility of respect for the individual in question.

President Obama invited the Jonas Brothers for his daughters as they are avid fans. Let's hope they are infused with some Beatlemania and Paul appreciation and have Paul do a White House Concert!
