Hendrix is probably the biggest one for me. But I'm not sure is it because he fits into the frame of stereotypic hero pretty well.

Dylan because he's...well, Dylan. In my book, his greatness needs no explanation.

Besides the Beatles...Dylan and Bruce Springsteen. Dylan because he's, well, Dylan. Springsteen because he seems like a genuinely nice guy (not that I know him personally! ) and he writes such beautiful lyrics. Plus, the guy can rock out!

This is going to seem odd but I think Dylan is probably my biggest hero, though he is not my favorite artist. In fact, many of Dylan's songs don't coincide with my musical tastes.

But, I respect the hell out of his contributions to popular music, i.e. lyrical importance, social awareness, streaming rants, folk/country infusion into a burgeoning pop/rock climate etc.. I respect the importance that has been bestowed upon him by the greats of the past and present.

Last but not least, his ascension to the summit of rock legend was not hindered by the obstacles he faced with a voice that, on the surface, is not perceived favorably by the masses. His messages still found their way into the collective. That is greatness.

Aside from the Beatles, Pete Townshend and George Martin - if a hero is someone you aspire to be, then I say: with no forgery, I want to write like Townshend!

Besides the Beatles... Simon & Garfunkel. They made many songs with beautiful lyricks. Great musicians.
