Mariah Carey's Christmas songs - don't care for her arrangement

For two summers in a row I had to put up with the Grease soundtrack with John Travolta and Oliva Newton-John. I got so sick of it that I finally hid the album in desperation. To this day, I have been soured on that soundtrack, although I initially liked it.

I can't stand most of Frankie Valli's screechathons. His voice sounds like nails across a chalkboard; cats screeching in season and other high pitched atrocities.

Oo, I can't stand Grease. The songs and the movie.

Which brings me to someone I can't stand. Olivia Newton John. She's a sedative in human form. So is Marie Osmond.

Several of the songs mentioned in this thread are ones I do enjoy.

However, these are some that could be wiped off the face of the Earth:

Yeah, Mo is a dull performer. But how can you say such about a fellow Utahian?!

Well techinically I wasn't born in Utah so...

But I'm not too keen on any of the Osmonds.

I hate Blood Sweat & Tears' song about dying naturally. Me without that song is like California without an earthquake. I also can't stand Reba McIntyre.

Has anyone mentioned "Electric Avenue?" I go into a bad acid trip flashback when this comes on the radio. God, it's sad when all you remember from the 80's is a bad acid trip!

I actually like that song, but then I never really get weird. The song that I cannot stand is Panic! at the Disco's one about the wedding.

Also Good Charlotte's "Say Anything" which someone sent me right after my former girlfriend broke up with me. Not only was it in my mind a lousy song but it hit too close to home at the time.

I hate the 1983 stinker "Electric Avenue" and I'm not too fond of Uncle Kracker, either.

"Sweet Child of Mine" by Guns and Roses. Everytime I hear that intro I just feel sick. The song is too long and tedious. As far as rock anthems go I absolutely loathe that song.

I hate "Automatic" by the Pointer Sisters. Talk about an atrocious stinker extraordinaire!

I don't like "Fear Not the Reaper," a 1979 stinker by the Blue Oyster Cult. I also didn't like the name "Blue Oyster Cult" and thought it quite nonsenical. I don't like the word "Oyster."

I never liked "Hakuna Matata," a stinker from The Lion King. I find it extremely irritating.

I hate the "possibilities" scream that has replaced "Mmmm good" for Campbell's Soup. I also never liked "Rhapsody in Blue" that has been linked to United Airlines ads. Add to it "I've Never Been to Me," which I find cloying and annoying.

I also dislike "We Are the World;" find the melody maudlin and don't like the song at all. Just the rationale for it, but not the song.

This is a ridiculous bump, but I just noticed this tonight. The "Possibilities" song has the EXACT same melody as ...... "Bip Bop."

Maybe that's why it's so bad haha.

Any good song can be ruined by a poor arrangement and bastardized treatment. For example, I cannot stand the Carpenter's execrable renditions of Beatle songs. "I'm Happy Just to Dance With You" is one of my all time favorite songs, but the Carpenters slaughtered it with their atrocious version and poor arrangement.

That song was written by Laura Nyro, who also wrote "Eli's Coming,"
"Wedding Bell Blues," and "Stoney End." Some of her songs had
religious themes, I notice. But were generally upbeat.

Well it really is.

Most of those guys' lyrics are abominable as well. One has to suffer them if the radio's turned on...

Also! There's a guy who was married to... Jessica Simpson I think... can't remember his name, but he sings a song called "What's Left of Me" and it gets a lot of airplay through radio + MTV. The song is cheesy, bland and very bad, that's unimpressive: the thing I didn't know is that he's releasing his album very close to his divorce to Jessica Simpson. So he's actually "singing from his heart" or something? Or trying to sell even more records from the supposed "pain" that the divorce caused him.

I found it amusing and impressive, when I sort of knew the whole story.

Ah, Jessica Simpson is irritating as well. In one of the late Simpsons episodes Homer receives a present for Father's Day from Bart that he really likes and then goes on to open Lisa's present, although he kind of knows that nothing is ever going to surpass Bart's gift. So he says something like: "I'll open it, even though Bart's present was so good that opening anything else after it will be like listening to Jessica Simpson after the London Philarmonic Orchestra".

At least the Simpsons are a funny cast of cartoon characters. Ashlee and Jessica's atrocious noises are sadly all too real. The sisters Simpsons screamathons are like ninjas assaulting the ears.

I never liked Brahms' Lullabye and think it sounds sad. I've heard cheerier songs at funerals and wakes.

I'm not overly fond of Blood, Sweat & Tears and I am not overly fond of the Mickey Mouse Song, "Who's the leader of...M-I-C-K-E-Y M-O-U-S-E." It is irritating.
