I like the devil horns bit.

But seriously, so much of what The Beatles did foreshadowed hard rock/heavy metal. Play Eleanor Rigby with a distorted guitar and an over driven Hammond B3 instead of a string quartet and you have everything from Deep Purple to Dio to King's X. The dual guitars of And Your Bird Can Sing isn't too far away from Thin Lizzy. I'm sure there's more.

The Beatles influence uniformly influenced rock and pop music in general. If you listen to "Revolution" it's very grungy and it's sound is two guitars directly into the console overdriving the console's preamps. Then there is the Beatles use of the Hendrix in a distorted way on “Taxman”. What might be important in general is the very first use of feedback on a rock record is the Beatles song "I Feel Fine”, recorded in October 18, 1964. This was before both The Who (1965) and Jimi Hendrix (1967). Maybe it was used as a live effect before but the Beatles intentionally used feedback as part of the songwriting process.

As far as the "cookie monster" vocals, what about The Who's "Boris the Spider?" I'm pretty sure that predated "Hold On".

You are quite right! "Boris the Spider" was 1965!
