Have loved Ben Harper's music for many years and finally got to see him last november opening for Pearl Jam, and he was great..Ben Harper also worked with "Uncle Ringo" as of late, so maybe there is more to this skatepark in santa monica than meets the eye..does one just go to a skate park and bump into Ben harper on his skateboard?!
With Pearl Jam! That would be a fantastic show! What's this about working with Uncle Ringo?? Do tell! That skate park thing was so funny... Dhani gives the three second synopsis, lol!!

And Dhani says he told Ben to not be skateboarding, that's he'd break a bone, and then I guess he did fall! And Ben said, "As I was falling I was thinking of you" and Dhani replied that was a great name for a song, haha!!

When you hear it, you're gonna be amazed that this was recorded in three days. Start to finish... well, they added bits like drumming and things, but I mean, generally, it was a three day thing. These songs all came about in three days... Genius. It's the work of collaborative genius for sure! Not since Wings Wild Life have I heard a three-day-er I've loved so much!

Ben called Jim K "one of the greatest people on earth".... isn't that cool? He said he could listen to Jim's stories for days.. and they had days with him so he heard lots of stories. That is so cool. And Dhani said, "I haven't seen him in the studio since my Dad was around..." I hope Dhani was not too sad....

Restore Me... what a song! 30 Bones... Father's Son... Fistful of Mercy... and With Whom You Belong are my favorites. With Whom You Belong is a song about friendship and reminded them of how they became good buddies through the process of this project.

I just can't wait to get the songs on my mp3 player!!

Having more info now we may conclude that the first video posted here is probably the finished recording since it has drums on it.

I really want a CD release and hope one is forthcoming..i think i will enjoy this alot more than thenewno2, because it is acoustic/ rootsy/folk almost kind of music and looking just at Ben Harper who is kinda folksy blues/rock i would presume as much.. I believe Dhani to be very talented, and was blown away by some of thenewno2's intial material.."choose what your watching" was one of the best things i'd heard in years, but he decided to go down a more electronic path, i guess to do something completly different from his father (understandable) "choose" didnt even make it onto the album .... I truly believe Dhani really needs a good producer or someone to guide him and keep him on track..if George was around or Jeff Lynne perhaps would step in it would be great, but then it would be too much like a "George Harrison" project and i truly believe he is trying to carve his own path and i do respect him for that. Consequently apart from a couple of tracks i was dissapointed by the newno2 album..this, however gives me some hope!!

What is this 'hot records' i read somehwhere? His 'fathers label'?? George? hot records? new to me i have never heard of it and am having some doubts about George and hot records?? The only thing i can think of is HOT is short for Hari on Tour, and i doubt George would name a record label that, cause he hated touring, unless he was having another 'volume 3' moment ...

What is this Hot records, then?

yes with Pearl Jam!! Ediie Vedder came on to do a duet of David Bowie/Freddie mercury's "Under pressure" with him!! And Ben returned the favour playing lap slide on a PJ track..was a great triple bill, Liam Finn (well worth checking out) opening too..Ben's wife, the actress Laura Dern was on side of the stage with their young kids :) Pearl Jam were also great even doing covers of The Who's Love Reign O' er Me (excellent) and closing with Neil Young's Rockin in the free world!!

Jim Keltner is the man..so good he was iinvolved in this project, he should be their full time drummer!! to think i went to Simon & Garfunkel (twice!) just in the hope of seeing Keltner, and he didnt do that tour!! Ok so it wasnt the ONLY readon i went

if I'm not mistaken, Jim worked on the posthumous Brainwashed sessions with Dhani and Jeff recording new drum tracks, so Dhani has been with him in the studio and seen him since George passed, certainly..but i guess he classes all of that of course as "George sessions" and his father being around still or just on 'holiday'

A really interesting collaboration was Dhani and Jakob Dylan on "Gimme some Truth" for the Make Some Noise, Save Darfur! Lennon tribute..Dhani was more in the background to Dylan here (very George!) , and of course George played on the original track , so maybe thats how that came about.. But the son's of Dylan and Harrison to me would probabaly be the most exciting new project there could ever be!! Jakob Dylan is now a firmly established and fully fledged musician/singer songwriter of quite some repute in his own right..

As for Ben Harper and "Uncle Ringo", they are friends and interviewed each other for a Myspace interview..ben and the Relentless 7 have even backed Ringo (as Ringo's band!) for a couple of TV shows, i think even for his 70th birthday one.. Why dont they all just do a big tour!! Fistful of Mercy with Ringo and Jim Keltner on drums!!

Hot Records, Ltd is actually Dhani's, but gets published through Harrisongs. Yeah, it's all Dhani's!

I loved thenewno2, and really really hope Dhani continues writing and recording with the guys there (Oli, too!). The word on the devotee grapevine is that Dhani plans on still making that second thenewno2 lp, and that he is still writing and recording for it. So, that's good news!

All that said, I am (like you) naturally more inclined towards the more folksy and less electronic stuff. To hear Dhani bring in the blues influence was a real moment for me. I just sat in awe hearing that Dhani walked in singing Catfish Blues, and then asking for a blues number and all. So, yeah, this is more like stuff I normally would listen to and seek out. Electronic Sounds are not typically my thing, but I will say seeing Dhani play them live made a difference, too... brought it more into place for me?

Dhani is great, I hope he does it all and especially just follows his heart. I'll be following and listening carefully!

I have read now it was a completly random encounter at a skate park..like totally spontaneous..but surely they have mutual friends, and cant have been that random?!

And since you were asking Hari's Chick:

"The group then dove into some tough, agonized blues with “Father's Son,” a song inspired by Robert Petway's ancient “Catfish Blues,” harmonizing as Harper sliced away on an acoustic Weissenborn lap-slide guitar."

I don't divulge my sources!!!

yup so hes fully aware of catfish blues and from this "father's son" does seem to be a completly 'new track' but in the blues tradition a homage to "catfish", and directly and considerably inspired by it!!

I am not completly opposed to all electronic music, when its done right..but not the typical mainstream stuff..I like some of the electronic edged NIN stuff, The Dissociatives (Daniel Johns and Paul Mac) of course and a band called Tribe of Judah (Gary Cherone from Extreme/ Van Halen's short lived project) And i like the Fireman etc..

Live i do believe thenewno2 are great..kinda electronic/rock stuff always come across much rawer and rockier than the recorded/studio stuff..thats how it should be!!

Yes, eactly like Bill and Mickey Hart!!

Jakob Dylan recently released his 2nd Solo album, which is Excellent!! very kinda acoustic/alt country feel to it. I saw him on Letterman promoting it...He's also releasing a Wallflowers Greatest hit CD with a couple of new tracks and is supposed to be touring with them again, for the first time in a while..
