Re: 2nd greatest band
In terms of quality and longeivity I'd have to say U2, but bands I really like but don't really think of in terms of "2nd greatest" are Coldplay, and also a Canadian band called Moist

Re: 2nd greatest band
I can't even begin to even possibly consider thinking about this one... The Beatles are definitely 'home base', but here goes, and in no particular order... love Dylan, the Doors, the Byrds, the Stones (esp. Brian era), the Who, Floyd (esp. Syd era), Led Zeppelin, most UK, SF and LA psych band from the '60s... um, er, gee, it's all too much...

Re: 2nd greatest band
Hmm... Probably Simon and Garfunkel. I've loved them forever (not nearly as much as the Fab Four though )

Re: 2nd greatest band
After the Beatles, my second favorite band is the Moody Blues. I have most of their stuff.
I also love Neil Young (and CSNY), Matthew Sweet (my favorite more recent artist), Coldplay, Collective Soul, NRBQ, Talking Heads, the Verve Pipe, XTC. I also really like Burt Bacharach, Beck, Crowded House, Enya, the Foo Fighters, Joe Jackson, The Bears (with Adrian Belew), Tom Petty, Todd Rundgren, the Sundays.
Making this list is like eating Lay's potato chips--can't eat just one--can't chose just one!

Re: 2nd greatest band
HMMM. Favorite Moodies album... My fave SONGS are "Fly Me Straight" and "Watching and Waiting." I also like "Driftwood" and "The Day We Meet Again." It's hard to say which one album I like the most. I have all of them and love them all. I have seen them in concert, too, which was cool. For anyone not wanting to buy all the albums, there is a great compilation set--4 CDs--called Time Traveller. Their music is so ethereal. I do think "Days of Future Passed" is a masterpiece.

Re: 2nd greatest band
Time Traveller is a great box set. Try to find the original issue. It has a bonus disc of live material from the Red Rocks Shows.
