Six Degrees of Separation?
Has anyone heard of the Six Degrees of Separation theory? If you haven't, then it's the theory that everyone in the world is connected to each other by six people. For example, according to this theory, then you probably know someone, who knows someone, who knows someone, who knows someone, who knows someone, who knows the President of the United States.
Myself, not being amoung one of the Beatle fans lucky enough to actually meet any of the Fab Four yet, rely on this theory to make me feel more elevated in my obession status.
Being the freak that I am, I actually researched into my acquaintences, and found the number of degrees between myself and our ever-so-popular Mr.McCartney. How shocked I was to see that only one degree (one person) of separation rested between the famous Macca and me!
Upon more extensive research, I found that a mere three degrees (three people) were between me and John Lennon. I now feel a bit closer to my two favorite song composers.
I understand that those who've actually met both of these Fab Four members will probably scoff at my excitement, but as those like me who haven't, isn't this theory great????
Does anyone else have any stories like mine?

Re: Six Degrees of Separation?
hmm. . .this got me to thinking, and you know what? i actually do! there are but 2 little degrees between me and george, whom i'm sure you all know is my favorite *
i've been studying cello with my current teacher / much revered mentor for about 5 years now. while a student at eastman, he in turn studied sitar with the incredible ravi shankar! of course, ravi was teacher / friend to none other than george harrison himself

Re: Six Degrees of Separation?
Well, okay, then I guess there's only one degree of separation between myself and John...because I know someone who knew him!
Ditto between myself and Paul, because I know SEVERAL people who know or have met him.
Not so sure about the other two...I'll have to think about that one...
Hmmm...interesting...

Re: Six Degrees of Separation?
This theory is similar to the fad about Kevin Bacon. He has been in so many movies that someone made up the game "Seven Degrees Of Kevin Bacon". The idea was to use as few degrees as possible to match Kevin up with any one else in the world. He even parodied this in his check-writing commercial.
Let me do some thinking as to how many degrees separate me from any of the Beatles.

Re: Six Degrees of Separation?
I guess I'm one degree from John, George and Ringo, since friends of mine have met them. I've met Paul, so there's no degree there! Three total degrees....brrrrrr, I'm cold now.

Re: Six Degrees of Separation?
I'm glad I've gotten a few people to stop a think a bit about just how close they are to their favorite Beatle! The stories behind my degrees of separation are a bit interesting...
My good friend Nick's grandfather was the Head of Security at the Indiana State Fairgrounds when the Beatles performed there in 1964. Nick's Grandfather had the GREAT GREAT priveledge of personally driving the Beatles to their hotel room that night! I use that story for my separation between myself, John, George, and Ringo.
My connection to Paul is through my other friend, Andy, who works at concerts here in Indianapolis by working the sound boards, helping on stage, and working some of the lights. About two years ago, when Paul was going around on his Back In the US Live tour, they stopped here in Indy. Andy worked, and was able to meet Mr.McCartney backstage after the concert. He also met Heather, and most of the other guys in Paul's band. In addition to that, he also managed to steal the floor lamp from Paul's dressing room!!!! He said he might give it to me, and I'm excited! I mean, think about it folks...This floor lamp has seen Paul McCartney naked.

Re: Six Degrees of Separation?
well I guess before I met Pete the closes I had come to any of the Beatles would have been two degrees or is it one? meeting and shaking hands with Davy Jones from the Monkees who was on the Ed Sullivan show with The Beatles on Feb 9th. Micky Dolenz who hung out with Paul McCartney, Peter Tork hung out with George as well as meeting Micheal Nesmith. My one degree of speration would be meeting Pete Best, and my two dergees was his brother Roag who gave me a kiss on the check and for those of you who may not know Roag's dad is Neil Apsinal the Beatles Rodie and a close friend of the Best Family.
I can't believe I forgot George's sister Louise,
who I spent about 40 minutes with. A very sweet lady she is.

Re: Six Degrees of Separation?
Y'know, I'm really silly...I'm one degree removed from ALL of the Beatles (including Stu), not just John and Paul, because I've met Yoko Ono, Klaus Voormann, Astrid Kirschherr, Pete Best AND Pauline Sutcliffe...all of whom knew at least one of the Beatles at some time in their lives.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">that's many different degrees of seperation, fun! and i forgot i met pete too. whoops! i'd call that 1 degree for sure. that's especially unique because then you're only 1 degree from stu, which you only get 2 degrees with yoko. Aw, you're all so lucky! You've all gotten the lovely opportunity to meet all of these people very closey linked with the Beatles! How in the world did you get the chances, anyway? I'm a bit curious. Pardon me if I'm prying...

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">I met a lot of the people I did at Beatlefest over the years...I met Yoko at a lecture sponsored by the New York Times about a year and a half back, I met Pete Best at a memorabilia show years ago, I met Pauline Sutcliffe at a gallery party during a showing of her brother's paintings about a year or so back...and I have quite a few friends who've met the Beatles personally.
