Do the Beatles still hold the #1 spot for most albums sold? I know Garth Brooks was gaining on them a few years ago, but still had a lot to go.

And didn't Mariah Carey beat the Beatles for most #1's?

Well, there`s no danger anymore that Mr. Brooks will reach the Beatles` US certified album sales. The Beatles` sales have been reassessed by Capitol Records during the last year, which brough them additional 59 million in sales! Now the Beatles stand at 163.5 million, while Garth Brooks is at 100.5 million...

The Beatles have 20 Billboard #1 Singles, Mariah Carey has 15 until now. Her latest "Loverboy" is still at #2 behind Destiny`s Child.

James Last is a German Big Band orchestra boss who was very successful from the 1960s - 1980s with re-recordings pop music melodies as well as classical melodies.

Mariah Carey has spent more weeks at the #1 position in the Billboard singles chart. I think she spent 62 weeks at #1, while the Beatles "only" spent 59 weeks at #1.

The reason for this is that during the 1960s, songs usually only spent 1 or 2 weeks at #1, and then made way for the next classic, because in the 60s, a lot more singles were released than during the 1990s. In the 90s, it was common that once a song reached the #1 position, it stayed there for months, regardless of how crappy that particular song was (best example: "One Sweet Day" by M. Carey and Boyz II Men, which spent a record 16 weeks at #1 in 1995/95, despite being one of the least memorable #1 one hits of all time). Reason for this is, among others, that few singles are being released these days, allowing a longer stay in the charts for those singles that do chart, as well as a longer stay at #1, as there are so few records to compete with.
