I heard somewhere that John wrote I Am The Walrus one line a day hence why it has such contrasting imagery.
It was Glass Onion that Lennon wrote to confound the over-analysists of his work. He just wrote something completely random and supposedly said "Let the f***ers work THAT one out!"

are you sure about glass onion?
i read that a student from his old school had an assignment to analyse lennon's songs, and wrote to him asking about them. john wrote IATW from and LSD trip, an old school rhyme that his friend and him sang (the part about mustard form a dead dogs eye) which he changed it around a little, and then when he was done, said "let the fuckers work that one out" i dont really know anything about glass onion so i cant argue but i definitely read that "let the fuckers work that one out" was said about IATW

Dowlding's Beatlesongs quotes Lennon's Playboy interview that the first line of 'Walrus' was written on one acid trip one weekend and the second line on the next trip the next weekend and the rest filled in after he met Yoko. It also refers to Pete Shotten's John Lennon - In My Life that 'Walrus' was written to confuse Quarry Bank teachers analyzing Beatles songs.
About "Glass Onion", Beatlesongs quotes Giuliano's The Beatles: A Celebration that John wrote it because of all the "gobbledegook written about Sgt. Pepper", about playing it backwards, etc. for secret messages.

i think IATW is a lot better than glass onion. then again he probably didnt put a lot of effort into glass onion if it was just to annoy and confuse people

I know it's an old topic, but I just came across it again. The hand wasn't by Steven Crane, it doesn't really fit. If anyone cares, it clearly belongs to Issy Bonn.

I always thought it belonged to the smiling guy directly behind Paul. If that fellow's name is Issy Bonn, then it's Issy's hand. Check out this out-take from the cover shoot... it looks very much like that hand is attached to the arm that is attached to Mr. Bonn:
Regarding Hitler's fate on the album cover, here is an interesting article I just stumbled upon:

While that picture is a fake, you can clearly see that the hand belongs to Issy Bonn, which indeed is the smiling guy behind Paul. Steven Crane is the small pale face sandwitched between Issy's hand and head.

The picture is a "fake"? I don't understand, Legs. It's an out-take from the photo shoot.

Yes and no. The real outtake from the photo shoot shows Paul holding an trumpet or trombone.
