Default Anyone on this board play the Ukulele?

The concert for George got me interested in playing one.....but have no clue where to start in buying one. Anyone out there own one & what is a good Uke to start with?
I don't play the guitar, but I hear it is an easy instrument to play & maybe I can find a good book or video to learn from.
Thanks for any help,

First, don't buy a 'cheap' one- it won't stay in tune! I bought one from www.samash.com and was disappointed with the quality. Chords are somewhat easy to learn and remember. Some are made by pressing down on one string. Here's a site to help you learn:

I had a ukulele as a kid. My best friend and I used to pretend we were the Beatles, put on wigs, and put on shows for people. She would use the uke as a guitar, and be Paul, and I played on a small toy drum set, pretending to be Ringo.
However, I DID learn a few simple chords on the ukelele, I think it was my mom who taught me C, G, F, and a few others. So I actually did play, and sing some of the simpler songs. The notes to tune the uke were top to bottom: G, C, E, A. I remember my mom gave me a little song to sing to tune it, "My Dog Has Fleas". I don't know if she made that up or what. Anyway it's just a little memory.

I bought a ukelele for my daughter a couple of years ago, and we still have it. Both of my kids play around with it, but like Matt said above, if you get a cheap one it loses it tune real fast. It was also from Sam Ash.

I've got one. My auntie got it from Hawaii for me last year, she said I 'needed something to occupy myself ' . I must say I really have gotton the hang of playing it. My uncle and I always mess around with it at family bonfires.

THE CHORDS ARE QUITE EASY, BUT IF YOU WANT TO PLAY GOOD RHYTHM IS VERY IMPORTANT

I'm going to Hawaii in October for my honeymoon, and I'll definitely be picking one up there.

Heheh when I was in the 5th grade (or when I was 10) we learned hot to play the Uke...hehe it was fun....most of the time I didn't really know how to play and I just faked it....but it was fun none the less.

I just picked one up and I have never had so much success with a musical instrument before. It's a blast! Now I need to find some Beatle chord progressions, so that I can play the boys work. Anyone have suggestions?

Tony

we can work it out is good. if your looking for things other than the beatles i personally think that deep forbidden lake by neil young is one of the best chord progressions ever written. its not my fav song by neil but its just such a great chord progression
