Default A few Q\'s....

Was Lennon the musical genius behind his work or was it the "band"?

Did Spector ask permission on wall-of-sounding his work, or did he do like in Let It Be?

Did Spector arranged the piano parton Love and Preston the piano part on God or did John told them what to do?

When John did a song, did he think of the intstruments he wanted to add or that was the bands or producers idea?

IMHO, John was the genius behind his own work.

Phil Spector took it upon himself to add his "wall of sound" treatment to Let It Be.

Currently, I do not have the info needed to answer this question. Maybe someone else here can enlighten us all.

The songs were all John's ideas originally. I'm sure there were collaborations on several of his songs.

Are you referring to Rock and Roll here? I'm sure John knew about Spector's "wall of sound" style before he started working with him on that album. But again, maybe someone else has more information about that.

Well if you consider May Pangs book a reputable source(which I do), in it she states that John knew about Specter's wall of sound method, and still gave him complete control over the album. So in that respect, he knew about it. On Let It Be, I'm not sure...but he had to have at least some sort of clue about it.

If you can get your hands on a copy of the film/video "Gimme Some Truth," you will get a VERY good feel about what went on in the studio during the recording of "Imagine," where Phil Spector was also the producer...and I think that you will find that John was very much in control of his own work, and that things were done the way HE wanted it.

Have you switched interests from George Martin to Phil Spector now?

Do you hate all producers, or just ones that try to take over songs without the artists' imput and/or permission?

Actually I hate the fact that some stupid people think that George Martin was the mastermind and he did everything for the Beatles which subconciously created my hate for ALL kinds of producers.

That's not George Martin's fault that they think that, however.

Now that I've emptied the trash between jelly and lennon4, can we cease from the petty bickering?

I realize and respect your position as a moderator, Kat; however, I do not appreciate the censoring of my posts (or jelly's, for that matter). The "conflict" was resolved, as far as I'm concerned. And, I do not consider it bickering on my part. I feel that I kept my cool and presented my opinions in a level-headed, yet, honest manner. I'm sorry if you felt otherwise.

Hear hear!!
Also I don't like it when people call George Martin the 5th Beatle.
Lennon went off on that stuff in the Rolling Stone interview.
He said their were only 4 f'ing Beatles and all Martin did was what we told him to do. For example if we wanted a piano solo in a song we would tell him to put in a piano solo that sounds like Bach.

Martin was a technical producer not a writer/composer/creator type of producer.
