I listened to Devil Woman for the first time when I bought the 'Ringo' CD, and I thought 'OMG!That's a HORRIBLE song! Is this still the Ringo Starr I know?!' I swear, to me on that song, he brought out the horny sexual side of him. I didn't like it at all.

Ringo's cover of "You're Sixteen" is as good as the original version. The addition of the kazoo, played by Paul, gives it a special appeal.

You're Sixteen (You're Beautiful and You're Mine)

Richard and Robert Sherman

Ho!
You come on like a dream,
peaches and cream,
Lips like strawberry wine.
You're sixteen,
You're beautiful,
And you're mine. (mine, all mine)

You're all ribbons and curls,
Ooh, what a girl,
Eyes that sparkle and shine,
You're sixteen,
You're beautiful,
And you're mine. (mine, all mine, mine, mine)

You're my baby,
You're my pet,
We fell in love on the night we met.
You touched my hand,
My heart went pop,
Ooh, when we kissed, I could not stop.

You walked out of my dreams,
Into my arms,
Now you're my angel divine.
You're sixteen,
You're beautiful,
And you're mine.

You're my baby,
You're my pet,
We fell in love on the night we met.
You touched my hand,
My heart went pop,
Ooh, when we kissed, I could not stop.

You walked out of my dreams,
Into my car,
Now you're my angel divine.
You're sixteen,
You're beautiful,
And you're mine.

You're sixteen,
You're beautiful,
And you're mine.

You're sixteen,
You're beautiful,
And you're mine.

All mine, all mine, all mine.

All mine, all mine, all mine.

All mine, all mine, all mine, all mine, but I do.

Let's see... Now you got me all crazy about that album and have to hear it again... Just looking at the tracklist I believe my favorite is "As Far As We Can Go"... What about you?

I've done my job! I heard the album again just now... and I just have to say that "As Far As We Can Go" remains my favorite, but I like more the "original version" which was used as a bonus track on the CD issue. "She's About A Mover" and "Hopeless" are standouts, whilst the rest of the album is more or less happy Ringo doing happy Ringo songs ("Alibi", "Picture Show Life", "In My Car" being the best three on this subject, in my humble opinion).

Now why he decided to record Joe Walsh's atrocious "Be My Baby" is beyond me. It has to be one of the worst songs he ever recorded, in my opinion. But oh well. "I Keep Forgettin'" works well as a link, and the other tracks didn't stay in my mind for a long time.

It's not really a bad album, except for "Be My Baby" and a couple of others.

Now I'm confused, what d'you want to discuss?

"As Far As We Can Go" is a good song and the longer fadeout on the album is better than the CD release. The lyrics are easy to follow along and leave a hopeful ending to possibly something more.

As Far As We Can Go

Russ Ballard
Island Music

You don't have to say, I see it in your face.
When tears fall they leave a trace.
I told myself it won't be long,
It's too bad to lose what we had.

I thought all love songs would go on and on.

People talk, yes, I think they know.
I guess that it must show
We've gone as far as we can go.

They walk by and they whisper low,
The rumours had to flow.
We've gone as far as we can go.

I thought all love songs would go on and on.

People talk, yes, I think they know.
I guess that it must show
We've gone as far as we can go.

They walk by and they whisper low,
The rumours had to flow.
We've gone as far as we can go.

Today's song is a very good example of a really good song that didn't get the publicity it should have. Being the first single from Ringo's album Time Takes Time, "Weight Of The World" is a terrific Byrds-like 12-string jangle-pop number.

Weight Of The World

Brian O'Doherty and Fred Velez
Nocturnal Eclipse Music/Dyad Music Ltd/Susan Street Music

Maybe your daddy never held you like he should,
Maybe your mama just held on the best she could.
Ev'ry soul has a secret,
Give it away or keep it,
But yesterday's gone, so tell me why...

You carry the weight, the weight of the world,
It's breakin' you down on your back like a boulder.
Before it's too late, get rid of it, girl,
Get it off of your shoulder.
I know you've been used,
But you gotta lose the weight of the world.

Maybe I haven't always been there just for you,
Maybe I try but then I got my own life too.
Ev'ry heart has a hunger,
I'm not getting any younger,
I got all the crosses I can bear.

Don't gimme the weight, the weight of the world,
It's breakin' me down on my back like a boulder.
Before it's too late, get rid of it, girl,
Get it off of my shoulder.
You know I've been used,
And I gotta lose the weight of the world.

It all comes down to who you crucify.
You either kiss the future or the past goodbye,
We could fly so high.

But we carry the weight, the weight of the world,
It's breakin' us down on our backs like a boulder.
Before it's too late, get rid of it, girl,
Get it off of our shoulders.
We've all been used,
And we gotta lose the weight of the world.

It's takin' us down and the night's growin colder,
Just blame it on fate, that was yesterday, girl.
And we're just growin' older.
We've all been used,
Now it's time to lose the weight of the world,
The weight of the world,
The weight of the world.

John used to sing that one before 1964 (hence his vocal outing on Live At The BBC), but I believe Ringo's natural country abbilities in the vocals made a much better effects. I like it very much.

Although on Concert For George he messes up with the words (never sang the "well I love you baby and you oughta know / I love the way that you wear your clothes"), he still does a charming vocal performance.

Ringo did an excellent job on this song. His vocals were on the spot and from the way the Beatles recorded it, you can feel the fun they had doing it.

Honey Don't

(Perkins)

Well how come you say you will when you won't,
Say you do, baby, when you don't?
Let me know, honey, how you feel,
Tell the truth now, is love real?

But huh-uh, well honey don't,
Well honey don't,
Honey don't,
Honey don't,
Honey don't.
I say you will when you won't, huh-uh, honey, don't.

Well I love you, baby, and you ought to know
I like the way that you wear your clothes,
Everything about you is so doggone sweet,
You got that sand all over your feet.

But huh-uh, well honey don't,
Honey don't,
Honey don't,
Honey don't,
Honey don't.
I say you will when you won't, huh-uh, honey, don't.

(Oh, rock on George, one time for me.)

(I feel fine.)
(Umm-mmm)
(I said...)

Well sometimes I love you on a Saturday night,
Sunday morning you don't look right.
You've been out painting the town,
Huh-uh baby, been stepping around.

But huh-uh, well honey don't,
I said, honey don't,
Honey don't,
Honey don't,
Honey don't.
I say you will when you won't, huh-uh, honey, don't.

(Oh, rock on George, for Ringo one time.)

Well, honey don't,
Well, honey don't,
A little little, honey don't.
I say you will when you won't, huh-uh, honey, don't.

One of my favorite Ringo songs too. Co-written with George, a splendid song of what is all that's left to someone who loses someone else near and dear.

Photograph

(Starkey/Harrison)

Every time I see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all I got is a photograph
And I realise you're not coming back anymore.
I thought I'd make it the day you went away,
But I can't make it
Till you come home again to stay-yi-yay-yi-yay.

I can't get used to living here,
While my heart is broke, my tears I cried for you.
I want you hear to have and hold,
As the years go by and we grow old and grey.

Now you're expecting me to live without you,
But that's not something that I'm looking forward to.

I can't get used to living here,
While my heart is broke, my tears I cried for you.
I want you hear to have and hold,
As the years go by and we grow old and grey.

Every time I see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all I got is a photograph
And I realise you're not coming back anymore.

Every time I see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all I got is a photograph
And I realise you're not coming back anymore.

Every time I see your face,
It reminds me of the places we used to go.
But all I got is a photograph
And I realise you're not.

Absolutely my favorite Ringo song. He does a wonderful job on this one. I always like this one, before I knew it was Ringo, even before I knew George co-wrote it. And as Ringo said at the Concert For George 'it now holds a different meaning'. Beautful song.
