Default Re: Ringo\'s song of the moment 2

The holiday seasons are almost upon us. I think it would be good to pick a Ringo song from his Christmas album. The words here are what we all hope for - peace and love.

Dear Santa

Starkey/Hudson/Dudas

Dear Santa, I know it's Christmas time again,
How I love to sing the songs.
And ev'ryone becomes a friend
When they start to sing along.

Dear Santa, I don't need a brand new toy,
The ones I have are working fine.
So give my toy to another girl or boy,
I hope you'll get it there on time.

Dear Santa, we need you here,
Just give us one present for a happy new year.
Merry Christmas, let the sleigh bells ring,
Dear Santa, bring peace and love that would be ev'rything.

Dear Santa, well, I've heard it all before
From Jingle Bells to no more wars.
But now it's time to change people's minds
I know you'll get it there on time.

Dear Santa, we need you here,
Just give us one present for a happy new year.
Merry Christmas, let the sleigh bells ring,
Dear Santa, bring peace and love that would be ev'rything.

And now it's time to change our minds
I hope you'll get it there on time.

Dear Santa, we need you here,
Just give us one present for a happy new year.
Merry Christmas, let the sleigh bells ring,
Dear Santa, bring peace and love that would be ev'rything.

Dear Santa, we need you here,
Just bring us one present for a happy new year.
Dear Santa. Merry Christmas,
Dear Santa, have a Happy New Year.

Dear Santa, dear Santa, Merry Christmas,
Bring peace and love, bring peace and love.

Yes I will

One of the songs George wrote for Ringo

Sunshine Life For Me (Sail Away Raymond)

One song that would have fitted very well at the CFG I believe.

A cheerful song, a happy sound, great guitars and wonderful harmonies

UH-HOO!

IT'S A SUNSHINE LIFE FOR ME,
IF I COULD GET AWAY FROM THIS CLOUD OVER ME,
SEEMS TO JUST FOLLOW ME AROUND.

IT'S A SUNSHINE LIFE FOR ME,
IF I COULD GET AWAY FROM THIS CLOUD OVER ME,
SEEMS TO JUST FOLLOW ME AROUND.

THERE'S A GOOD LIFE HAD FOR FREE,
WHEN YOU'RE OUT IN THE COUNTRY.
THAT'S WHAT I COULD USE,
IF I COULD GET AWAY THERE SOON.

IT'S A SUNSHINE LIFE FOR ME,
IF I COULD GET AWAY FROM THIS CLOUD OVER ME,
SEEMS TO JUST FOLLOW ME AROUND.

THERE'S A GOOD LIFE HAD AT SEA,
IF YOU'RE NOT IN THE NAVY.
THAT'S THE LIFE FOR YOU,
SAIL AWAY, RAYMOND, SAIL AWAY.

HO!

AH!

NOW MOST FOLKS JUST BORE ME,
ALWAYS IMPOSING
AND IŽD RATHER MEET A TREE
SOMEWHERE OUT IN THE CORNFIELD.

AND IT'S A SUNSHINE...

IT'S A SUNSHINE LIFE FOR ME,
IF I COULD GET AWAY FROM THIS CLOUD OVER ME,
SEEMS TO JUST FOLLOW ME AROUND.

AND IT'S A SUNSHINE,
I SAID, SUNSHINE,
IT'S A SUNSHINE.

HA! HA! HA! HOO!

Lovely song. George's vocal harmonies are so present there that I fell in love with it (the song) at first sight. Then I noticed the guitars and the "happy country" arrangements. Love it, nice addition to a great album.

Great choice for today Rob. This has always been one of my favourite Ringo songs. It is so uplifting, and yes the harmonies are great.

I agree, it would have been a good song for Ringo to do at CFG.

Aww...I love this song! It's so happy, and I still remember how the first time I heard it, I couldn't stop laughing at the line about meeting trees in cornfields.

Good choice!

A great rocking song and Ringo's vocals blend well with it. John's Hammond organ sounds perfect.

I Wanna Be Your Man

I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your man,
I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your man.

Tell me that you love me baby,
Like no other can,
Love you like no other baby,
Like no other can.

I wanna be your man,
I wanna be your man.

Tell me that you love me baby,
Tell me you understand,
Tell me that you love me baby,
I wanna be your man.

I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your man,
I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your man.

I wanna be your man,
I wanna be your man.

I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your man,
I wanna be your lover baby,
I wanna be your man.

Tell me that you love me baby,
Like no other can,
Love you like no other baby,
Like no other can.

I wanna be your man,
I wanna be your man.

One of the best B-sides from Ringo's solo career.

Early 1970

Richard Starkey

Lives on a farm, got plenty of charm, beep, beep.
He's got no cows but he's sure got a whole lot of sheep.
And grand new wife and a family,
And when he comes to town,
I wonder if he'll play with me.

Laying in bed, watching TV, Cookie!
With his mama by his side, she's Japanese.
They scream and they cried, now they're free,
And when he comes to town,
I know he's gonna play with me.

He's a long-haired, cross-legged guitar picker, um-um.
With his long-legged lady in the garden picking daisies for his soup.
A forty acre house he doesn't see,
'Cause he's always in town
Playing for you with me.

I play guitar, A-D-E.
I don't play bass 'cause that's too hard for me.
I play the piano if it's in C.
And when I go to town I wanna see all three,
And when I go to town I wanna see all three,
And when I go to town I wanna see all three.

I would like to suggest another one. A song that hasn't been discussed too many times, and not for a while.

You're Sixteen

I just 'discovered' this song. I remember hearing it decades ago for the first time and really liking it. A song I always sing along too.
Just beautiful. But just recently I find out that it is Ringo!! I had to listen to it three times to see if it was the same version I 'remembered'. Amazing. I am almost embarassed at my lack of knowledge sometimes.

Don't be.
It's cool. When I first heard "It don't Come Easy" when I was a kid, I didn't even THINK it was Ringo, but when I found it, it just cemented my love for his music

I LOVE that song! I saw Ringo in concert last September and he sang this song. he asked, "are there any young girls in the audience?" and of course I screamed, being fifteen at the time. My sixteenth birthday was last December, but I didn't get to hear the song on my birthday, which was sad. So I just replayed the concert in my head. What a swinging song!
