Great, great interview. It would be so cool to see/hear the entire interview. Jim Keltner probably knew George longer than anybody else except of course the Beatles circle, Eric Clapton, Monty Pythons and the Shankars (and o handful of others).

MD: One of the questions I asked Ringo for Quick Beats was: Who was a better drummer, George or John? And Ringo said "George." Would you agree with that?
Jim: [laughs] Good question…. Well, I would have to say yes, because, first of all, John never played the drums in front of me. But George did, and he could play very well. He had such beautiful time. When George played drums he had all the basic language. He knew what to do with his feet and the hands. He cracked me up a few times at the drums. I have a beautiful picture of him behind my set at the house.
this is quite cool huh

MD: Were all your drum tracks completely finished before he passed away?
Jim: Yes. I didn’t do any more after…. When he called me to come do the drums, it was before the stabbing, and I believe after his throat operation.
from a technical point, this means that all the songs were beyond demo stage before december 1999, so about 3 years before release.

Jeff and Dhani did mention the songs were in a pretty half finished stage but did not really say when and how.

My Jim Keltner story's not as interesting as Jakes, but I'll share it anyway. :-)

In 1998, my wife (then girlfriend) and I visit Los Angeles to meet with other fans of Harry Nilsson. We met at a friend's house and he told us he had just learned that Jim Keltner lives down the street from him. Keltner, of course, worked with Harry several times.

Jump ahead just a few nights later and we're again at our friend's house attending a party with other Nilsson fans. At the party, my friend introduced us to ... Jim Keltner. Our friend had knocked on Keltner's door, told him about the event, and invited him to the party. Keltner graciously agreed to attend even though he had just been to the eye doctor and had his eyes dialated.

I didn't talk much with him. To be honest, it was one of those cases where a million questions bounced around my brain, but none made it to my mouth. I was a bit overwhelmed thinking about all the historic recordings he was a part of as well as all the people he's worked with.
