Songs For Cyn
I was just wondering if John wrote any songs for Cyn? And did any of you think any of the Beatles songs could have been written fot her?

Re: Songs For Cyn
I have no basis on this, other than just a hunch based on what I've read about the nature of their relationship once the Beatles hit is big, but I really think few if any of the "love songs" John wrote during that period had much to do with Cyn. John didn't write that many happy love songs during that time period anyway.
I read somewhere in some profile of Cynthia that "In My Life" was inspired by her, but I just don't buy that. I've never read it anywhere else. I don't think you can base it on if John mentioned her because most of the interviews where he explains the songs are post-Yoko and he seems to never even mention Cyn. So if they had something to do with her, I don't think he would have mentioned it anyway (except for Norwegian Wood and that sort of thing).
One song I read that supposedly was inspired by her that I *did* believe was "Do You Want to Know a Secret?". That I can believe somewhat...

Ask me why - The Beatles
Do you want to know a secret? - The Beatles
I'm in love - The Beatles
I can belive that he dedicated these songs to Cyn, but the website which I took this information says that he also dedicated:
Girl - The Beatles
Across the Universe - The Beatles *
Jealous Guy - John Lennon *

Re: Songs For Cyn
WHEN I GET HOME, almost certainly. One song that I know of that, while not for Cynthia, was written because of her, is ACROSS THE UNIVERSE.
According to John, he started composing it while lying in bed with Cynthia. John said Cynthia was talking on and on and the words to this song started floating into his head. He couldn't sleep, got out of bed and wrote as much as he could. He put it away for more than a year before coming across it again and finishing it.

Re: Songs For Cyn
Jealous Guy- I have explained over and over in various posts about the song about Cynthia and Yoko. Jealous Guy was originally written in 1968 in India, later on, John found it and wrote the lyrics. However studying the lyrics, it felt like he was talking about Cynthia- somesort of an apology to her. Of course he would say that was dedicated to Yoko- would you say that a song was really written for your ex-wife while your wife was sitting right there?
I'm in Love- was written in 1962/1963 by John for Cynthia; he gave the song to the Fourmost to use.
In My Life- not only was it for Cynthia (with the line that says "And I love you more") but for other people in his life as well: Stu, Pete, his mother, Uncle George, etc.
Girl- was written in 1965, and John wasn't with Yoko then. I have an interview that Cynthia did that I printed out from the Internet that said that she felt that Girl was written for her. It could be or it couldn't. We don't know for sure.
If I Fell, I Feel Fine, Do You Want to Know a Secret?, It's Only Love, It Won't Be Long, Anytime At All, Eight Days a Week, and some others are all possible canditates that are for Cynthia. Cynthia also said in that interview that I have where she says that John used to write poetry to her all the time; at the time John nor the others would say "I wrote this for so-and-so" because it was a bit embarrassing at the time and she knows that she's somewhere in those songs considering that they write songs about their lives anyway.

Re: Songs For Cyn
I found my previous post about the lyrics in Jealous Guy and added in my comments about it...
In the lyrics, he says "I'm dreaming of the past", yes Yoko was in his past, but only for four years. Cynthia was in his past since '57.
Have you ever read Lennon by Ray Coleman? If you read Cynthia's part of the book, then you may know this.
>I didn't mean to hurt you,
John probably did get abusive to Cynthia when drinking and mad- the Beatles were struggling and his mother was dead and his father was gone off
>I'm sorry that I made you cry,
Cynthia cried easily, especially at the time she had divorce John
>I didn't want to hurt you,
Since the beginning of their relationship, John never wanted to hurt Cynthia. Do you know that John did not want to be the one to tell the news to Cynthia that he wanted to end the marriage? Instead he sent Magic Alex to Italy to past the news.
>I'm just a jealous guy,
Since the early days of their relationship, John was extremely possessive and jealous of Cynthia. Not just in Lennon, but in Pete Best's book, Beatle! The Pete Best Story and Pete Shotton's book, In My Life: My Life with John Lennon, and Julia Baird's book, John Lennon, My Brother. Those are four books with the same source that John was extremely protective of Cynthia.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">I'd be interested in knowing what part of that song (or the whole thing?) makes Cynthia think it's about her. Or maybe I'm taking the lyrics in the song too literally. But it still really does not sound like her (at least the way she came across in public anyway)

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">John said Girl was about his "dream woman", who later turned out to be Yoko. But I can't possibly see the female character in the song being inspired by Cynthia. Sounds nothing like her.
Jealous Guy I have always assumed is about Yoko. However, the lyrics of the song probably work with any serious relationship John had, namely Cynthia. But I believe it was written after he was with Yoko, so I tended to think it was more about her.
