In the beginning
When John and Pete formed their first group The Blackjacks, John had a guitar from a local music shop. What was the name of the shop and how much did it cost?

Date that
Well, since they were only The Blackjacks for a short time in 1957... John's first guitar was the Gallotone Champion that he ordered by mail for about £10. He didn't get the Höfner Club 40 until 1959, except by then they were The Quarry Men, indeed at Hessy's in Liverpool. The down payment was £17 but the total, including charges, was about £30. Sorry, I've been unable to find a more precise amount than that.

Yes indeed, with the Blackjacks John used a guitar bought for him by Julia. It was probably ordered from Headquarters and General Supplies and cost just under 11 pounds.
But Julia paid by instalments so in all she paid £17 10 shillings and 6 pence, or if you prefer £17 10s 6d.
So basically there's a problem with the question.

That's why I said the guitar initially cost £17 even though it wasn't paid off until 1960.

I wish you hadn't came back and posted again 834. I have to disqualify you from this question for making another post before I returned.
I wasn't looking for a detailed answer. 834 gave want I wanted but I can't accept it now. The next member to post that answer will get the point.

??? I gave the correct answer and only qualified that it was paid off later. What's wrong with that? You're disqualifying me for having a correct answer? Didn't someone else add a post recently? The favoritism rolls on, I guess.

834, the rule states: "Editing your post in any way or posting twice before the moderator replies will disqualify you for that question." This is the second rule listed. With two posts made before I returned, I had to disqualify you from this question. If you have anything else to say about this, send me a PM.

But you asked how much it cost!
Anyway, never mind.
Though I do recommend you read John Lennon The Life by Philip Norman to get a clearer take on this interesting question.
