Yellow Submarine Float
According to Abbeyrd's website, there's going to be a Yellow Submarine float in the Tournament Of Roses parade on New Year's Day in Pasadena, CA. The event will be televised on NBC.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif"> *For those with cable, it will also be shown commercial free on HGTV (Home and Garden Television).
This way you can be sure of seeing it.

Hmmm....I wonder who's sponsoring it? The Navy?

Re: Yellow Submarine Float
hmmm If I'm not working I'll just have to have a look see and try and catch a glimpse of this float. The Rose Parade is always really neat to watch.

Re: Yellow Submarine Float
I dunno, I thought it was kinda disappointing, in that it didn't look AT ALL like OUR Yellow Sub...it was a submarine and it was yellow, that's about it...and the insipid music...ugh...
Not impressed...sigh...

Re: Yellow Submarine Float
The Yellow Sub float kept playing a recording of an icky shrill children's chorus singing "Yellow Submarine." I couldn't tell if they were singing the whole song or just the chorus; if it was just the chorus, I bet the people riding on it went insane before the parade ended!
There also was a float with an octopus that was playing "Octopus's Garden." It sounded like the original version. (There were actually three floats with octopi or tentacles. What a theme!)

Re: Yellow Submarine Float
While it's true Susan, it wasn't a YS replica as we know it, it was still cute seeing those little kids singing YS, even if it was only the chorus. I'm betting they had to be careful as to not infringe on any copyrights. Even if it was a stupid Rose Parade float. I'm still trying to figure out how submarines tie into a life insurance company...anyone?

Just saw it. It was pretty cute. No sign of Jeremy or the Blue Meanies, though. Bummer.

Re: Yellow Submarine Float
Well, the parade theme was something like "children and imagination," so I guess someone at the insurance company thought a YS fit the bill... can't think of too many kids who imagine yellow submarines, offhand...
A lot of the floats had a rather tenuous connection to the theme. There was one, a heart lined with flags of the world, and the narration was something like "Every child and adult wishes that everyone had a big heart." Well, if they keep reaching, maybe they'll get there.
