George's parents house in Appleton, Warrington
Hey folks,
I was wondering, is this what used to be George's parents house in Appleton, Warrington -
http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-...-57615110.html
I'd always thought it was somewhere smaller. I remember reading a story ages ago where George had gone to visit his parents and had to sleep over in the attic as there was no other room in the house, but this house is huge! (Unless that was a different house?)
Hope you're all well. :)

I read the Harrison house in Appleton was a large bungalow with gardens for the senior Harrisons to enjoy. George inherited his love for gardening from both sides of his family tree. I never came across anything that said he slept in an attic. Pat Mancuso's book includes a picture of Louise and Harold posing in front of their home.

Hi Beatlebangs,
It wasn't this that I read, but it's the same story --
http://www.beatlesbible.com/1965/12/...rn-warrington/
Did you have a look at the Right Move house? The address on Beatles Bible matches it (there couldn't be two with the same name?) but this house is a 2 storey house. Maybe it's been developed since the 60s, but it seems like that would have been a large development.
If it is George's parents house, if you've got best part of a million quid, it's yours!

That is very interesting, Miss O'Dell! I had not known this. I read the Harrison home was a bungalow and the only picture I saw of it was in Pat Mancuso's book. The reproduced snapshot did not show a full image of the place.
When George visited in 1965 and 1967, he had to sleep on a camp bed in the attic. The picture of the current house shows a lovely, modernized house replete with a garage. The house reflects current styles and is a far cry from the bungalow it was when Harold and Louise were living there.

Yes, if it's the same house, someone has done a LOT of work on it! I wondered if it had even been rebuilt, maybe..?
I haven't seen the picture in that book. I will have to look it up. The only other picture I could ever find for it was:
From this site - http://www.warrington-worldwide.co.u...house-protest/
Looks like that could be a more 60s/70s era photo and although it's from a distance, the window in the roof/attic looks to be the same.
EDIT: Second thoughts, maybe not! I had another look at the Right Move listing! Maybe they have rebuilt the house?!

The Harrison cottage George bought the senior Harrisons in 1965 was much more modest and much smaller. The current picture shows a place that has undergone a complete overhaul including a large garage.
No doubt if company were to stay overnight, they wouldn't have to sleep in the attic!
