Platinum Weird - This Guitar

While adding the Platinum Weird version of "This Guitar" to my Harrisongs Web site I was naturally bummed to find that the original download location has been shut down. It dawned on me to check the Wayback Machine, and sure enough it's there! Since planckera posted this I looked into Platinum Weird's releases.

1. MySpace streaming releases
2. platinumweird.com mp3 download releases
3. Will You Be Around (EP) iTunes release on July 4, 2006.
4. Make Believe released on October 10, 2006. Best Buy stores in America exclusively carried a 2-disc edition of Make Believe which included a 12 song bonus disc. I also noticed a separate CD on eBay that contained the same track listing as the Best Buy bonus disc.

Apparently Harrison's "This Guitar" was only available on platinumweird.com as a mp3 download.

Wikipedia's Platinum Weird entry says this about the Harrison track...

I'm not sure how accurate that information is however because in the studio video I posted above the bass player was clearly Chucho Merchan who I think was Dave Stewart/The Eurythmics' bass player at the time. Was his bass part later replaced?

This is truly an obscure track. I'm glad I was able to grab it before it completely disappeared. Thanks again planckera.

After a few more searches I see this track isn't quite as "obscure" as I thought. There's a lot of information about it online.

Someone on that topic emailed the webmaster of platinumweird.com about the track and received this reply...

Rex: ''Sorry, don't know if the Harrison song will be on any album. Time will tell...''

I've got to assume there's some licensing issue there either with Apple or Capitol since the song predates Dark Horse Records. Also it appears to have been released posthumously so possibly Olivia and Dhani have not agreed to release on CD? Or maybe they're saving it for a Extra Texture bonus track? All speculation on my part of course.

Former Eurythmic Dave Stewart recalls recording a version of "This Guitar" with Harrison in London. This recording was published over the internet as part of Stewart's Platinum Weird project, in March 2006 – over four years after Harrison's death from cancer at the age of 58. The song did not appear on Platinum Weird's 2006 album, however, titled Make Believe.

Dave Stewart overdubbed this rerecording from 1992 with Dhani and Ringo! Was planned for a CD release of Dave's group project "Platinum Weird", but abandoned.
