Brian To Be Inducted.....YIPEEE!
Great news on the R&R HOF class of 2014. Brian Epstein along with Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham are receiving the Ahmet Ertugen lifetime achievement award.
The 2014 inductees are (in order that I like them) are Peter Gabriel, Linda Ronstadt, Cat Stevens, Hall & Oates, Kiss and Nirvana. The E Street Band is being inducted in the sideman category. All but Nirvana list the Beatles as an influence. But as we all know Dave Grohl is a big Fab Four fan.
The induction ceremony will be on april 10 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn and televised on HBO in may.

Now I'm confused. Is he actually being inducted? I know he's getting that award, but is that the same thing as being inducted? Either way, I'm glad he's getting some recognition finally.

I assumed he was being inducted just on the glimpse of where! But looking closer he will be receiving the "Ahmet Ertugen lifetime achievement award"
To clear this up:
The non-performer category honors "songwriters, producers, disc jockeys, record executives, journalists and other industry professionals who have had a major influence on the development of rock and roll. Several of the inductees in this category were in fact prominent performers as well. The inductees in this category are selected by the same committee that chooses the early influences. The full process is not transparent and it is unclear who comprises this selection committee. This category has been criticized for inducting those that have "been coming to the dinner for years and paying for their tickets" and not revealing their full criteria. In 2008, this category was renamed the "Ahmet Ertegün Award".

Yes this is good news. But I have to say that Brian Epstein was very lucky as was George Martin to have the brilliant singer song composers John Lennon and Paul McCartney as their employees and clients! It would be any group manager's and producer's dream.
I'm sure that John and Paul and probably George too would have been discovered by someone else sooner or later.George Martin before becoming The Beatles producer, had some success producing comedy and some classical records, but he never had the big success before or after producing The Beatles and he produced quite a few music artists after them.
He himself has said that he has never known or worked with *any* other music artists as brilliant as The Beatles. And Brian Epstein would have stayed a manager of a record store in England that hardly anybody ever heard of.
By the way,my maternal grandmother's good friend for years Sylvia Levy was Brian Epstein's first cousin, and I met her when I was 15.She had been living in this country for decades yet she still had a very obvious Liverpool accent. She told me what I already had learned from my Beatles books, that Brian was very depressed and had emotional problems.

Can I ask who or what Ahmet Ertegün is?
Fun Fact: Apparently Peter Asher will be inducting him
