Look For The Girl
What exactly was Lucy and where reportedly did the name come from?

Lucy was Lucy Vodden a childhood friend of Julian Lennon's. Julian drew a picture of her and when asked who it was he reportedly said it's Lucy in the sky with diamonds.

No. I think you should read the question again.

This looks like a question for fellowgardner. I'm at a lose for the real answer.

Lucy was Julian's friend in school and the girl in his picture, (Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds). When John was writing "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", Lucy was "the girl with kaleidoscope eyes". John had the image of a girl coming from the sky who would someday save him and eventually that girl was Yoko Ono.

No. The question begins with what not who.

Lucy is the common name of AL 288-1, several hundred pieces of bone representing about 40% of the skeleton of a female Australopithecus afarensis.
What has this got to do with the Beatles?
Well, Lucy In The Sky was being played at some point at the camp.

Lucy is also a gold topped Les Paul guitar once owned by George Harrison. He named it after comedienne Lucille Ball from the 50's show I Love Lucy.

That's the correct answer.
The link between the two being that the guitar was repainted red before Clapton gave it to George and Lucille Ball was of course a famous redhead.
