Most prog Beatle song
Quite a few really. I just put up the ones I think are the most progressive ones. Feel free to add any you think I missed. I would probably give it a tie between A Day In The Life and Strawberry Fields.

I... kinda think that the most "progressive" thing they did, in terms of sequencing different extracts of songs and ensemble them in a long piece of music where the instrumentation builds up the climax to the lyrics... was "You Never Give Me Your Money" from Abbey Road. But it's only similar. Not "progressive" really, with those songs that are 8+ minutes long. I mean, we're not talking about Selling England By The Pound or anything.
Although I'd be interested to read what others think about the subject.

Well, the way I look at it is that the Beatles were certainly not prog in a genre sense. But they were progressive. I tend to look at King Crimson as being the catalyst of the prog genre. The Beatles were proto-prog and probably the biggest early influence on prog. Other early influences are like Hendrix, The Doors, Cream, Moody Blues among others. The Beatles may not have invented prog, but they certainly came up with the idea of progressing.

Tomorrow Never Knows. First extreme use of tape loops, the Beatles enter psychedelia.

I agree with you darkhorse, in fact I was about to mention the same song until I read your post.
Anyway, I voted for "Day in the Life" because it seems the most proto-prog in terms of sequencing and of course, the use of classical instruments, shifting tempos, etc.

I didn't even know what prog rock is and after reading a definition I am still a bit confused about exactly what it means.
In any case, I will cast my vote for A Day In The Life.

So are the Prog Rock artists themselves.
A grass roots definition could be that PR draws it's influence more from Classical and Jazz music than the tradition Rock and Roll influences of Country and Blues music. The musicians frequently opt for more complex arrangements and/or "deeper" lyrics; a break from the R&R four square foundation and moon/June/spoon subject matter. Although instrumental virtuosity isn't necessarily a pre-requisite; there is a trend towards Prog Rock artists showing off their chops to a greater degree. And self importance.
Now I'M confused.

At first i was gonna say A Day In the Life but then when i saw Tomorrow Never Knows on there I decided to go with that one cuz it came first and to me kinda helped start that whole Psychadelic Rock thing...

I was the first one on this poll to vote for TNK but never explained why:
The first album of the Beatles that I consciously bought was Revolver (you know how it goes, you grow up with the Beatles and find the odd Red Compilation Album knocking around in your parents' collection etc.).
So when I put Revolver on and TNK came on, I was a goner!
I'd never heard anything like it before! Couldn't wait for the weekend to end and buy my next album! Listening to it, I could almost see flowers growing in my room. And no, I wasn't on drugs...

I voted "A Day In The Life". There's something about that song. I'm a bit of a prog rock fan, so I might have a look at the link that ThisBoy provided.

Definately Tomorrow Never Knows. For the above reasons that everyone stated. It's just so...original. It can NEVER be redone.

I would have voted for "Come Together" had it been on the list. That song never gets old for me. I'm not a big one for Beatle covers, but Aerosmith did a bang up version of it for their performance in the (God Awful) Sgt. Pepper movie.
