I hope you told him off quite firmly, Tim!! Geez, the nerve!

Funny, there was a debate raging on another board I belong to about this very topic -- someone wanted specific reasons WHY GG's books were trashy...and a friend of mine obliged by quoting directly from a passage of "Lennon In America." I hadn't read it, needless to say, and I was just appalled...grossed out, too.

I knew that GG also stole material from Pete Townshend -- I wouldn't buy his book on him either, particularly since I've read far better books on Townshend and the Who anyway.

What really burns me up is when people write these trashy books about people who are dead, and can therefore not defend themselves...Albert Goldman also springs to mind, writing trash about John and Elvis after they were dead...but I guess some people will do anything for a buck...sigh...

I had a site boycotting the book, but it's not up right now. GG even posted in the guestbook "thanks for the advertising". He's an idiot.

<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

He's an idiot for sure, but much as I hate to say it, even a site *boycotting* his books is free advertising! Some people get off on reading stuff other people want to boycott. And though I personally think that avoiding GG's books is definitely the way to go, urging a boycott is also questionable simply from the standpoint of the First Amendment -- freedom of speech -- because it could smack of censorship! (Don't mind me, I get CRAZY when people try to censor stuff. I don't think YOU are acting as a censor, Beatlemethis, but it could be construed as such by some people who are more militant than I am.)

I CANNOT STAND GG, I think he's slime, but I have to say that I'll support his right to WRITE his books, even if I will definitely encourage people not to BUY or READ them...it's a weird, fine line between urging people not to read something and out and out censoring it...it's the same way I feel about magazines like Penthouse -- I think Bob Guccione is slime, but I will defend to the death his right to publish his magazine...

(I hope this post isn't misunderstood by anyone, btw -- I am in NO WAY defending GG, I think he's scum! It's the right to free speech that I am defending, no matter how much the subject matter offends me personally. But while I might defend his RIGHT to publish, I certainly won't waste my money on his slimy books!)

Okay, I'll get off my soap box now.

HMVNipper, your imput was sorely needed here and that loud sound you just heard was the SOUND OF THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE!

Tim, do you suppose GG is the rat who's been sending you those inappropriate e-mails?

[/b]<HR></BLOCKQUOTE>

GG has taught us how to be good matadors. He flings A LOT OF BULL and we fight it! Remember, FIGHT BULL, DON'T FLING IT! Fling pies, not bull! GG is full of more bovine manure than el toro himself.
