Default Amy Winehouse

Well I have been reading the thread about Lily Allen, and yes I don't mind her but if you want a Brit chick with attitude and one hell of a voice then check out Amy Winehouse.

Makes Lily look like a little schoolgirl though I don't think she is rude about anyone just a hard drinking, hard partying kind of girl and on tour in the States soon but not sure.

Yeah, she is very interesting, love her soulful vocals. I will check her out now, thanks.

Default Rehab - Live at the Brits '07

This really is an interesting song, it really has the Motown sound running through. Good performance.

Unfortunately Amy appears to be yet another one of these people who are really wrecking their careers with their "I'm now famous, I'm invincible" attitude. Apparently she's cancelled a large portion of appearences and concerts in recent times and is getting a bad reputation for this.

Also, is it just me or does she look like Janice from Friends?

Too be honest I can't be bothered with what they are meant or not meant to be like, i try to ignore all that and just listen to the music because thats what its about really and funny the Janice thing is mentioned cos I read that exact same question in the letter page of a newspaper yesterday and laughed out loud!

Default Amy Winehouse-Tears dry on their own on Jools Holland

Harb, yeah I see the resemblance. Ohhhh Chandler!

Maybe not so much in this song but Amy has a little Macy Gray in her vocals which is a good thing IMO.

A loooong time ago I opened a thread here about Amy Whinehouse LOL and it got little attention so I am happy she is back in the picture now

I have very little knowledge of them both, all I hear is some things about Amy 'not doing so well' but you know.. I saw that when I heard her first album and thought ... in the sixties those things happened too, so what's the fuzz..

Her producer though who is the same as Lily's, I read an interview with him a few days ago, and he says despite what Amy's hobby may be, she is a hell of an artist and he was impressed about what she knew about the old Soul music in every little detail. She uses this now in her music.

and anyone here who was around in the sixties and/or seventees know that just few artists only drank (real!!) tea and only ate biscuits.. and especially as Beatles fans with for instance a Revolver album which is maybe the best, can not have much to say on that?

I like Amy's music.

I tend to agree, the media tends to worry more about what they do as in drink and drugs etc than the music these people give and to be honest alot of these people are so tame compared to the rockers of the 60's and 70's!

I remember your thread FPSHOT and I think I said something about how the few times I have seen her out and about in Shoreditch, she has looked a little worse for wear!

Like her vocals.

She is pretty big here in the UK.

I work on Shoreditch High St! Used to see her a bit last year walking about but haven't seen her for a while.

The arsty scene of Shoreditch is good and I really like it BUT it can verge on a little OTT/ridiculous at times!! Like how there is one shop that is rock-bottom prices on women's slippers with matching hand bags then next door is some ultra cool boutique where the cheapest thing is a t-shirt for 270 or something! But yeah I like working there. Good places to escape to at home time!!

Yeah it was getting alittle pretentious by the time i finished work, have they pulled down Spitalfields yet?

Did she have that huge beehive when you saw her, or is that just for stage do you think?

The times I have seen her she had a bit of back-combed action going on but nothing like that do she has for performing! Nowhere near as big as that! Once she had the heavy eyeliner and another time she didn't.
The first time I saw her was last summer on a particulary hot day and she was eating an ice lolly. She was sooooooooooooooo skinny!!!!!!

Spitalfields is still going strong! Over-priced as anything. For a market anyway.

I picked up "Back To Black" a few weeks ago and fell in love with it. Her debut album "Frank" is pretty good also.

Thumbs up

Oh, I love. her. Her music just makes me wanna dance, you know? I heard 'Rehab' one day on VH1, and then I downloaded the rest of Back to Black and I really liked it. She's an odd one though - I read her interview in SPIN magazine, and she was carving 'I Love Blake' into her bare skin with a peice of a broken mirror during the interview. Her beehive and 'warpaint' make-up are a little annoying though. I mean, I give her kudos for breaking the mold, but she looks so pretty without it.

She does look a little like Janice, now that you mention it.

I love Lily Allen too as I said in her thread, both are a bit of a guilty pleasure I must say! Who'd win in a fist fight, Amy or Lily?

People go on about what she looks like or what she does but she can sing and thats all that matters.
Never heard her albums but keep meaning to check them out.

Amy would kick Lily's ass in a fight. No doubt about it.

I saw pics of that business with the broken mirror. A little bit scary really. Apparently she has a history of self-harming.

Amy's versions of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow (best version I have heard of this song) and To Know Him is To Love Him.
