Abbey Road = One of the best rock and roll albums ever recorded

Of course it cannot be considered a pure rock n roll album as in terms of style it is all over the place. However something that is often ignored is just how much this album flat out rocks.

Oh Darling is a flat out barn burner. As far as I am concerned Oh Darling IS rock'n'roll! But rock as only the Beatles could do, full of energy(literally SCREAMING with energy) yet somehow restrained and immaculately arranged and produced. Flawless.

I want you(she's so heavy) is HEAVY. This one is pretty obvious.

Come Together rocks in a bluesy laid back sort of way yet it is undeniably heavy in its own right.

The end is a perfect marriage of high energy rock and pop.

Polythene Pam and She Came In Through the Bathroom are straightfoward rock songs by Beatles standards which means they are better tha most others.

You Never Give Me Your Money is half a rock song with some great guitar playing towards the end.

Of the 7 songs I mentioned above I think 4 or 5 are undisputed rock n roll masterpieces.As a group of songs I put them against any album by AC/DC, the Stones, the Who, or Led Zep. I will not go as far as to say that the Beatles beat these groups at their own game, but what I will say is that they rock just as well and therefore along with all the other accolades it gets, Abbey Road must also be considered one of the best rock albums ever produced .

I totally agree. In fact, that was the third album I got by the Beatles, my grandma gave it to me for my birthday. I tell ya, I must have played it like 20 times in one day. Words cannot describe the sheer power of the album. I still, to this day, have to catch my breath everytime I listen to it. In fact i've just put it on. Anyway, the album freakin' rocks

I agree! I have actually been ignoring Abbey Road for some time as I have been recently high on the white album. But Abbey Road is blowing me away once again. Pauls bass, Ringo' drumming, the harmonizing, the diversity, the rock n roll, the sheer beauty.......

has anyone else noticed that Sun King is just BEAUTIFUL BEYOND WORDS???

has anyone else noticed that no song on this album REMOTELY sounds like another???

has anyone else noticed that there is a meaning behind EVERY SINGLE NOTE PLAYED???

DID HUMAN BEINGS REALLY WRITE THIS ALBUM???? IS THAT POSSIBLE??????

They could play standard rock progressions whenever they wanted, but otherwise their brand of rock and roll stands above all else.
(that's how you become the Beatles)

This album just blows me away every time I listen to it. It is simply amazing in everyway. I have always said that they are Rock and Roll artist and this album just proves that. Not to mention the beautiful harmonies on 'Sun King' and 'Because'. Then entire medley is just so fantastic too. I know I probably sound really stupid but I can never describe something I feel really passionately about, like I feel about the greatness of this album.

Okay, I love it too. I got into Abbey Road a few months ago, and played it absolutely every day. Especially the last half. Probably my favorite thing is how so many of the songs blend into one another. From Polythene Pam to She Came in Through the Bathroon Window, to Golden Slumbers, etc etc... I love the whole medley.

What really amazes me is that this band is able to create this quality of music when they were on the verge of breaking up. There isn't a band out there today that can make music like this when they ARE together!

It is identical. I think Carry That Weight (the middle section) is a parody (is that even an appropriate use of the word?) of You Never Give Me Your Money.

This album is, imo, the best album of all time. And should definitely be considered the Beatles masterpiece.....not a dud on it...and each and every song glorious :)

Strange how no major readers' poll or critics' poll that I've seen has put "Abbey Road" at #1 as the best rock album of all time. Have I missed one? "Sgt. Pepper" is still voted #1 quite regularly, and so is "Revolver", which I believe Rolling Stone Magazine put as #1 just a year or two ago.

It's also unfortunate that a PERFECT masterpiece such as "Abbey Road" is so often lost in the shuffle whenever "Let It Be" is discussed and mistakenly referred to as the Beatles "break-up album." I've ranted about this before in this forum. Too few people realize that the Beatles' last album was actually the best work they had ever done.

When that album first came out I used to leave school about three periods early (or at lunch) so that I could go home to LISTEN to it, I was that hooked on it!

I've always considered Abbey Road to be the greatest album ever recorded. Good rock 'n' roll on Side 1 and the infamous medley on Side 2.

If you think about it, during the song "The End" the Beatles each showcased their talents with solo performances. This could be taken as a sign that each one would still record great music on their own in the future.

Yea... Abbey, I would have to say, is one of the greatest rock albums ever. It was the one that made me a fan... so that says somethin' for it! Lol... Each song is a masterpiece, and the way that they wove certain pieces together is pure genius. A definite musical masterpiece! One of the best for sure! Love it!

Abbey Road seems like a quatom leap and a climax combined. It stands alone(and at the top) of albums that are fabulous and indefinable. To my mind, the essence of Abby Road is truely ineffable. It is what it is, and it is beyond words.

it's interesting to note that AR wasn't all that well recieved when is was released (tho it sold like crazy). but then again, neither was the WA...and opinions on LIB are legendary. so their entire latter cataloge, which enjoys such high esteem now, was highly mixed contemporaneously.

I have to be honest, I never really loved Abbey Road... don't know why really. But latley I've been listening to this album a lot, seems like the songs have grown on me, and I absolutely feel in love with this album.
I love almost every song on it (I say almost because I don't like Sun King), great rock and roll stuff as you said. The diversity of styles this album has is amazing, I mean Maxwell's Silver Hammer and Golden Slumbers on the same album?!
