Cherie serenades Chinese students with Beatles song
Cherie serenades Chinese students with Beatles song
Tuesday 22nd July 2003
Cherie Blair serenaded a group of Chinese students with a version of When I'm 64 after they asked the Prime Minister to sing them a Beatles song.
Mrs Blair's impromptu performance came after Mr Blair had undergone a grilling from students at Beijing's Tsinghua University.
As the Prime Minister shook hands with academics, a student piped up: "Sing us a song".
Mr Blair replied: "Song? The Beatles? Where's my wife? Anyone who thinks this is scripted this morning, this is certainly not scripted."
As Mrs Blair joined her husband she said: "They want a Beatles song, people want us to sing, they want me to sing?"
Mr Blair replied: "Yes".
Mrs Blair said: "What do they want me to sing?"
A student shouted: "The Beatles."
The PM turned to his wife and said: "You can sing anything you like - When I'm 64."
Mrs Blair then sang the first verse of the song and was greeted with warm applause by the students.

Good choice of a song...Wonder if she managed to do it justice - you never know when you'll need a new job!

hehe Prime Minister's wife, now featured on the Beatle festival circuit in her own tribute band. That's a neat story.

It is a wonderful story and is proof positive of how the Beatles bring us All Together Now.

Re: Cherie serenades Chinese students with Beatles song
I think it's in very poor taste that while UK soldiers are fighting in Iraq and a Doctor in the UK has just commited suicide in connection with documents on the war (a situation which the PM is very much involved) that Blair and his wife are singing songs with not a care in the world.
Blair is phoney and looking at the pictures of the singing you can see there is no emotion or interest in those eyes.
It makes me sick!
