Re: musicians?
Musician? I don't know if you can call me that. Do you have to compose to be considered a musician? If so count me out. I'm not quite there yet! I just bought my first guitar in January and am totally excited about it. I'm learning slowly but loving every second of it. I also play the piano... it's my little vacation from reality.
Any one else?

Re: musicians?
Yea, I'm a musician I guess. I play guitar and compose. I really want a rickenbacker but, well, you know how it is. They're too expensive for a poor 19 year old with no part time work, no pocket money, no rich - kind relatives, no hope!!! I play guitar, sometimes I play the fool. I have a kind of casino copy type thing. I want a real one, and a vox amp too. Well!!!!!!!! It's no good going at it half heartedly!!!

Re: musicians?
I played bass in a few bands, and I can play the guitar well enough to get by. I've also been known to dabble in piano now and then. I took clarinet lessons in junior high, but I'm no Benny Goodman anymore. Ian, you started this topic, what do you play?

Ian

I am a guitarist, and have a band that plays 99.9% Beatle tunes from "Devil In Her Heart" to "I Dig A Pony". We have played at several events (opened for Johnny Maestro and the Crests at a local Summerfest) but basically play for the enjoyment every Friday night. We stay pretty true to the arrangements.

Re: musicians?
Does your band have a website? Cause if it does, submit it under our Tribute Bands category. Where do you guys play?

Re: musicians?
We don't currently have a website, but that's not a bad idea. We play Fri nights at the bass players house in Brick, NJ. We have opened for Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bride at Summerfest, and played at a few benefits in the area. It's mainly for the fun of it. We don't want it to turn into work, although we made a studio tape (I Am The Walrus, Don't Let Me Down, and Slowdown) to possible play out a little this summer.I'll let you know when we are on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Re: musicians?
I aspire to be a musician. Alas, I play no instruments. All I do is sing and write songs and act in plays. My friend and I formed a band called "Spectrum" that ended up a disatster. Maybe I should stick to theater.

Re: musicians?
I play guitar in a band, but I don't know if that qualifies me as "musician." Jerry you mean at one time you were Benny Goodman-like?? Where was I?

Re: musicians?
Brett, I was "first clarinet" in 8th grade. I kicked ass. That is, if it's possible to kick ass playing the clarinet.

Re: musicians?
I don't recall him ever kicking ass at it, Jerry tends to exaggerate on his abilities as a 13-year old. Oh yeah I played drums for a while, and Jerry and I recorded the worst tape of "Let It Be" in the history of recorded music. I wish he still had it somewhere, I want to hear it again.

Re: musicians?
Brett, watch out. I still have the tape. If you're not nice, I'll dig out the version where you were singing. Then I'll make an MP3 and upload it for everyone to hear. Even better, I'll go tell all of your VH maniacs to download it too.

Re: musicians?
I wrote a reply, clicked the right buttons, then went away. And now it has disappeared!
Anyway, all I said was........I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT THIS "LET IT BE" ALBUM!!!!!
Jerry, did you both sing on it?
Make mp3's, that would be cool!!! You recorded your own version of every song?
What made you choose 'Let It Be'?

Re: musicians?
Back in 1987, I bought a bass guitar. I figured it had 2 less strings than a guitar, so it would be easier! Anyway, I managed to figure out the main bass notes of Let It Be. I had already figured the song out on the piano. So Brett and another friend came over, and we tried to record it. Brett had learned the drums recently - well, at least you could call it learned. I showed my other friend where to put his fingers on the bass, and I shuffled up to the piano. We tried about 30 takes. Then we started switching instruments, with each move making the song less and less recognizable. Finally, Brett took over on vocals for one take - pretty scary stuff. I must say, it was quite a masterpiece. My house became Abbey Road for the night.

Re: musicians?
LM - I think we picked "Let It Be" because Jerry knew the piano parts pretty well. I was an awful drummer, not much of a singer either (although I have improved vastly since I was 16). If Jerry gives me the tape one day, I'll try to make an MP3 of one that might actually be listenable. I ain't ashamed of it, hell we were only 15 or 16 at the time, I think it's pretty funny.
