I would add The Beatles "LOVE" from the Cirque de Soleil show. The remixes and "mashing of songs" is pretty cool where you have George singing "Within You, Without You" to the music of "Tomorrow Never Knows."

May I also recommend Beatles "1." Although if you have all of the before mentioned CDs, you actually have all of the songs, but it is nice to have all of the famous "hits" on one disc. I also think the sound is just a bit brighter with the remaster. I would however follow Raul's advice and get the Anthologies, Let It Be...Naked and the BBC live CDs first.

I work with my dad and i had him bring in his Anth. vol 1-3 cds today and WOW i really like them. Everything is the same... but differnet. I like doing aranging the songs by title instead of album and listen to the same song two different ways very cool.

i think he has love at home too. I'll check that out.

He also told me about an album called Live Peace in Toronto he wants me to listen too. He also said John Lennons solo stuff is amazing. He's def. my favorite beatle.

Live Peace In Toronto isn't very good, it's a live album obviously, but the band doesn't play very well together. The band was thrown together last minute, and it shows.

If you want to dive into solo Lennon, start with Plastic Ono Band, then Imagine (the real album, not the movie soundtrack). The next several albums don't really do much for me. I don't like any of the political stuff, the rock and roll stuff is pretty boring too. But take out half of Double Fantasy and half of Milk And Honey (can you guess which halves?), and that's a nice CD.

Actually, if you can find the 'Lennon' 4 CD box set, that's the way to go. It's got nearly everything from the first two albums I mentioned, and the good halves of the last two albums, with all the essential stuff in between...

I agree with Jerry to a point. Definitely start with Plastic Ono Band and Imagine. You may want to skip Some Time In New York City for now, unless you enjoy political songs. The next album Mind Games is one of my favorites. Also there are some great songs on Walls And Bridges as well. Rock N Roll is fun but not great.

Way back in the 80s I would generally only listen to John's half of Double Fantasy. Now I actually like Yoko's stuff on that album (by far her best release), and I like the flow of the whole album. Milk And Honey is a bit rougher though...

They are predominantly bootlegs, although I see much of the original official US albums in there too.

The official discographies are listed in Wikipedia with explanation, descriptions, and clickable links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatles_discography.

Yeah, you're gonna get overwhelmed if you tackle all of this at once. Just take our advice - start listening to the official CDs, one by one, in order. You'll thank us later.

Alright I'll stick to the Canon stuff for now.

Does anyone have a list of Lennons solo albums in order of release? I am weird and just wanna get everything ... so I'd listen to it in order. I enjoy political stuff. so yea.

I was thinking about maybe getting The Lennon Anthology too.
But yea, a list would be great like you guys did for the beatles.

Here's the easiest way to cover all the solo stuff:

John: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lennon_Discography
Paul: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_McCartney_discography
George: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_...on_discography
Ringo: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ringo_Starr_discography

I agree that Rock 'n' Roll can be boring, but there's one song that stands out, Stand by me, imo.

Something New [1964] [US]
The Beatles - The Beatles Second Album [1964]
The Beatles - A Collection Of Beatles Oldies [1966]
Silver Beatles, I think is an official US album, early stuff.
Kinfauns and Esher are mostly demos for the White album.
I'm not sure about In the beginning, I think it's not bootleg, could be wrong.
Decca Tapes is an audition they did for Decca, New Year's Day, I think 1961 or 1962, they failed.
They released a Christmas album 1963-69, I think, it containes Christmas time is here again
Yellow submarine songtrack-a recent release, I think, not the same songs as Yellow submarine soundtrack (the original Yellow submarine)
Reel music- not sure, not bootleg, I think
Ballads, Rarities, Love songs-almost sure they're official compilations
Rock and roll music-official compilation, rock covers
Yesterday...and today has the notorious "Butcher cover", came out before Revolver, and contains 3 songs from it, I think
Something new-almost sure an official compilation
Second album A collection of beatles oldies-almost sure officials

Most of what you listed are bootlegs. Several others such as Something New, Yesterday And Today, The Beatles Again are simply Capitol compilations for the USA market.

Yesterday and Today for instance is a collection of songs from Help, Rubber Soul & Revolver, taking the songs that Capitol did not put on the US releases.

As many other posters and I have already said, familiarize yourself with all of the official releases (British originals or USA CDs) before you delve into the boots. That way, you will appreciate each more.

AFTER you become familiar with the regular stuff, you will enjoy the other stuff much more. Then when you hear the other stuff, you will recognize, "Hey that fades longer" or "Hey, that sounds different" or "Hey I am not used to hearing that harmonica (substitute other instruments) in that place", and such things. Welcome to the wonderful experience called The Beatles. Enjoy!!!

When I got into the Beatles many many years ago, it changed my life for the better, and I have never looked back.

The thing with the Beatles is, once you start buying their albums, you would want to buy the next album on your list... and when you finally have all the UK albums, you would definitely want to buy the compilation albums, then Anthology, and so on. I can't explain, it but I could not think of any other band that I am just so enamored by, that I would want to hear even their outtakes. I love Beatles outtakes!

That's what happened to me. It was an exciting time, discovering their music on my own and saving up my allowance to buy their albums. Once I got hooked, the desire to hear some more was insatiable.
