Default Random John Thoughts

I was surprised not to find a topic like this for John. I thought I would start one. I apologize to anyone offended that the first random thought is not a nice one, but I am sure alot of better ones will follow.

My random John thought for today; It wasn't very nice of John to throw bricks threw Paul's window 33 years ago today.

Today at school, one of our teachers asked:

Which character in history you feel has most in common with you?

Guess who was my answer...

Random John Thoughts:

* Sometimes I'll just not listen to his music for a long while, to give my self a predetermined "break" and then I'll hear it after awhile and it's like the first time.

* He was so beautiful! The things he said, his lyrics, his VOICE, his face, everything...wow.

* I think my new favorite John-singing-moment for now is "Be My Baby." I love all the "ahhs" and that "come on baby" part. Gorgeous.

* He is SO hot on the cover of Rubber Soul. I mean, it's not exactly one of those rare pictures, but I just noticed this the other day. I love that jacket. I have one very similar.

*Another thought: John always seemed to say things perfectly. They weren't necessarily politically correct, and some of the things he said were just a load of bull...but he had incomparable diplomacy in saying things in such a way that they sounded absolutely correct, and for that time they just may have been.

* One thing I'll always hate: how John's made out to be the "evil Beatle" (I coined that term through years of observation). For some reason, writers, critics, Beatles fans, and the like enjoy bringing up as many negative tidbits about John and his life, while the other Beatles were not any better or "more angelic" by comparison, yet they seem to squeak by with much less flack. Truthfully, it only pis$es me off when I read people saying shit like "John was the bad Beatle." That's really untrue and ignorant.

His eyes were INCREDIBLE. and his voice... Did anyone ever notice that it took his death for people to realize that he existed in something other than music (pacifist, i mean.)

John had a cute, full face. He was SO adorable! I love that crazy, brilliant, witty chief Beatle! John was SUCH a panic! He had a real flair for natural expression and creativity was what he was all about!

Love that Lennon!

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">Oh MAN, Fly, have you ever echoed my thoughts! Well, all the things you said, but the above especially. (You know how I always say we're the same person? ) That stuff about labeling him "Big, Bad, Scary, Nasty, Icky John" just sticks in my craw no end...I've had numerous discussions with people about this and they all seem to think he was some kind of horrible person just because he spoke his mind and wasn't always diplomatic about it. If it bugged him, he said so, and he didn't give a damn about the consequences, sometimes to his detriment.

The thing that really makes me laugh is when I hear stuff from people like "Oh, well, Paul is so sweet and angelic and romantic...he'd be kind and gentle with you...not like JOHN. Ugh, John is nasty and brutal and rotten, not nice at all, why, he'd beat you up as soon as make love to you." Baloney! I once utterly shocked one of my friends by telling her that John Lennon and Paul McCartney were cut out of EXACTLY the same cloth, it's just that Paul was better at hiding it behind his choirboy face! (And no, that's not me being disrespectful to Paul -- God knows I love the guy too, but honestly...I got over the rose-colored glasses phase years ago...)

But anyway, I digress...the reason, I think, that the others "squeaked by with less flack" is because John never pulled any punches...and, I hate to say it, things like the Jesus remark (which cheesed people off in the US) or the fact that he took up with a Japanese woman after leaving his English wife (which cheesed people off in the UK) have colored some people's perception of John ever since they occurred. Not correct to allow that, but it has happened...some people have never forgiven him for things like that.

Anyway...I've driveled on and on long enough -- but I absolutely agree with you, Fly, that drives me mad too!

I love the way he taught me to always lay all my cards out on the table in plain view as soon as I meet someone who might become important in my life in any way.
From the second time we met, he said things that were so intensely personal that I was almost embarassed to know tham, and when I said so, he just laughed, explaining that he would rather put everything out there in plain sight and be rejected or embraced immediately rather than to play hide and seek, get attached to a person, and have them reject him after he came to like them because they learned something new and terrible about him.
After I thought about it, I realized that he had a good point, and I have since followed his example, but at the time I had never met anyone with such an attitude, and I thought that was a wonderfully brave thing for him to do, although I am sure some would argue that point and say he was foolish.

<font size="2" face="Tahoma, Arial, sans-serif">You know what I'm talking about...please, call me Emily.

John was an extraordinary man. Thing is...some people can't catch up or understand that level of extraordinariness. It's too much for them. They'd rather envision and embrace the sweet, cuddly, care-bear image that they somehow extracted and labeled on others.

The only thing I may have to disagree with you about, Susan, is the diplomacy factor. I think that, at times, John wasn't diplomatic and tended to say what he felt right on the spot without thinking. However, one virtue of diplomacy, as I've witnessed, is the level of expression. John did have diplomacy in the sense that he could say something in a way where it could be interpreted the other way- for example: "The Beatles are more popular than Jesus."

Now, when he explained what he meant, the uproar died down quite a bit, though not entirely. He had a way of explaining himself that was very personal, and people could connect to that- which I consider a factor in diplomacy.

I think he was complex and couldn't be labeled or understood, so some people don't bother. If they did, they'd be SO amazed...

Oh, and I'm probably the only person who never really considered Paul McCartney Mr.Romantic. "WHAT????" they say... That's right. He leaves me cold in the romance department, sorry. I really actually thought John was the romantic one from the start...because I don't buy for a minute that men should be singing all the happy stuff (I know, not all the time)...give me the nasty stuff first, the angry stuff, the other stuff that's just as prevalent in romance (well, in my life), and I'll be more pleased. Say it like it is, baby. In real life. Because it 'aint all what it seems.

A few days ago in English my teacher asked us to name off famous quotes. As usual the first one that popped into my head was, "All I am saying is give peace a chance."
All of my teachers know that I'm a Beatle-freak lol.

I just cant help but smile when I think about John. I often get sad thinking about how his life was cut so short, but overall I have to smile and even sometimes laugh at things he said or did, like when he sniffs the coke bottle in AHDN or how he sings Sexy Sadie so wonderfully. He just makes me sigh sometimes
