I think Paul is only really underrated as a vocalist by John Snobs. (Who are TOTALLY different from John fans, who are awesome, by the way.) John Snobs basically refuse to believe that Paul was anything more than a glorified second banana to their precious John and do everything they can to belittle Paul's contributions to the group's success. Luckily, they are few and far between, but many of them seem to be rock critics.

Amen to that!

It has always bothered me that people have become "polarized" in re Lennon & McCartney. To enjoy one is not to dislike the other. After all, it was Lennon & McCartney who wrote "Come Together!" Darn shame the snobs seem to feel differently.

Each Beatle had his own individual style of unique and extraordinary talent. In my life, I've loved them all (but prefer McCartney & Harrison's music, Beatles and solo).

Millions of people believe they have what it takes to become a famous singer. For you to break through, you will need more than just talent. You will need patience, dedication and perhaps even a little luck. Give yourself a chance by taking the right steps to get ahead.

1. Try out for "American Idol"
This may be the long shot, but others have tried and succeeded, so why not you? Find out when the show is going on the road to audition talent, and arrive plenty early.

2. Try a Talent Agency
Seek out talent agencies or a singing agent, and find out which ones are willing to take a look at new talent. Talent Box provides an online resource with a wide variety of agents seeking musically qualified new artists.

3.Try acting and singing
Try acting and singing in new media formats, such as Youtube. To stand out, you must be creative in these videos. Get friends together to create a web series to showcase your talent

4. make sure you love singing and acting as an art form, and that you are not solely in it for the fame and money.

5. Take voice lessons. Lessons are great for novice singers to learn proper singing practices, as well as for experienced singers who wish to further develop their technique

8 Ways to Sing Better Now

1. Open your mouth when you’re singing! Singers who keep their mouths mostly closed are likely tense in the tongue and are far from achieving maximum quality of tone. I like the two finger rule. If you can fit two fingers between your teeth while singing (esp on open vowels like “ah” and “oh”), then you’re good. If not, open your mouth more.

2. Relax the tongue. After years of giving voice lessons, I’m convinced that 65% – 85% of all vocal problems involve tension in the tongue. Worst part is most people aren’t even aware of it. Look in a mirror while singing. If the tip of your tongue isn’t dominantly resting on your bottom front teeth then you’ve got problems. Relaxing the tongue more forward in the mouth will help.

3. Don’t take in too much air. If you breathe in too much air, then you create pressure under the folds that can easily hinder you ability to sing freely. It can prevent you from singing high notes and it almost always causes tension in your neck. To fix it, become aware of just how little is involved in regular breathing and try to mimic that sensation when singing.

4. Keep the larynx steady. If you don’t know what the larynx is, it’s where your adam’s apple is (or where it would be ladies). If this area of your neck is raising or lowering while singing, then you’re throwing off your whole vocal mechanism leading to many different complications. Rest your hand on your larynx while singing and make sure it stays steady.

5. Open and relax the back of the mouth. This is equally as important as allowing the front of the mouth to be open, if not more. If the back of the mouth is closed off, then the quality of the sound is shot (and I guarantee you’re tense). To get a feel for it, hold the “ng” sound of hung and feel how closed that is. Now say “ah” like you’re in a doctor’s office… that’s more open. Leaving the back of the mouth open like the “ah” sound can help create a beautiful resonance in the voice.

6. Sing with ENERGY. I can’t express this enough. Singing is a very physical activity. You must be energized and excited about what you’re doing or else it lacks passion (and it’s flat!). Singing with energy helps you hit higher notes and helps keep the sound out of the throat. Allow yourself to get excited before singing… do some jumping jacks or walk around a bit before getting started and realize just how much it helps.

7. Believe what you’re singing. I once read a quote that has stuck with me for years. It was something along the lines of, “that which comes closest to expressing the inexpressible is music.” Music is a form of expression. It’s alive and has a great ability to influence listeners. But that’s only true when you believe what you’re singing. Try to connect to the song through some personal life experience and see how alive the music you’re singing becomes.

8. Get out of your own way. Singing should feel like speaking. There should be no pressing, tension, straining, reaching, or grabbing when vocally active. These sensations usually happen when we try to force the sound out of us. If you’re not able to sing something, try to bring it back to speech first. You’d be surprised how easy that high “C” can be when you speak it.

It’s important to mention that focusing on all of these tips at once isn’t going to be overly effective because our brains can only process so much at a time. Therefore, I suggest practicing one of these tips for a few days, then move on to another. What we do when we sing is largely based on habit, so be sure to practice consistently.

So well said, Rell! I definitely think Paul is underrated. Of course I'm biased, but he was able to scream with the best of them, and get that gravelly sound to his voice that we all love so much. I personally rate him #1 for rock singers, followed closely by John, and then Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, and Freddy Mercury (I'm obviously partial to Brits). His ability to record a song where his voice is so pure and then immediately switch gears and go into his full on, screaming-gravelly voice is unparalleled, in my opinion.

Is it really surprising that John Snobs and McCartney's Knights are often at odds with each other?

John and Paul did the very same.

how to become a better singer

The first step to being a better singer is to learn proper breathing technique. As a singer, the best way to breathe is from the diaphragm, not from the chest. The reason being, by doing this you are able to fill your lungs with more air. This will enable you to sustain notes longer, and will also allow you to prepare for vocal warm ups. Breathing should be slow and steady, and this should be practiced all day long, not just when singing. For a singer, this way of breathing should be constant.

The next step is to work on how the air is going to be expelled from the lungs through the folds of the vocal chords. The first exercise that can help you practice this is one called "lip rolls." With the lip roll exercise, the lips are gently placed together, and then the air is expelled almost like a baby doing a "raspberry" if you will. It is not that easy to do and must be practiced efficiently before moving on to the next exercise.

Third, one should use the lip roll exercise and apply it to a musical scale. The air should be expelled while almost "humming" the note of the scale, slowly progressing up the scale, and then back down.

After the previous exercise, one can proceed with the "shhhh" exercise. IN doing this, you breathe in deeply from the diaphragm, and then expel the air in a harsh "shhhhh" sound and let all the air out slowly.

The above exercises may seem silly, but they will not only help improve your vocal range, but will also act as warm ups so you will have less stress on your vocal chords, and will be able to sing across registers more easily.

Learning How to Sing Higher

When you're learning how to sing it seems to be most peoples' ambition to increase their range right from the start. There are tools out there to help enable a person to do that but it doesn't really come easily in most cases. It takes lots of hard work and practice and dedication.

There are vocal lessons out there that claim to be able to increase a persons' range in the first hour of using the technique found within the lesson. To be honest I was (like you may be) a little skeptical because I had been singing for a fairly long time already and I pretty much knew that you could increase your range but it was not something that would be accomplished in an hour or so, but rather over the course of weeks or months and with regular practice.

On the other hand I also knew that there is a physiological "thing" that goes on in your body that tends to limit what you can do vocally. One of the keys to being able to sing higher is to know how to break through these barriers

Well said, Erin. Paul is in my honest UNbiased opinion one of the most talented living artists and I happen to think his voice is nonpareil!

How to Become a Better Singer

If you want to know how to become a better singer in just a few days then listen up! There is no magical way to do this, no controversial or little known technique! Singing takes practice and passion and dedication. However, assuming you have these things then there is one little trick that if you have not practiced before will help you sing better in just a few days but is certainly not the whole story.

This method is to help you sing more clearly and with better pronunciation. Not only does this make it easier to listen to but it will allow you to achieve clarity of voice and a precision of sound that will set you above other singers.

The way to do this is the sing the vowels in the alphabet. Try singing them without a tune for a while and then try putting it to music. If you make sure your vowels are crisp and well formed you will put your mouth and tongue in the right positions for better singing. If you want to get the tips Visit this site i recommanded how to become a better singer.

Paul once said about his instrunment playing, I tend to think about his vocal talents, he's not and incredibly good singer (i.e. a la Orbison whom you'd pay to hear him sign out the telephone book, acapella) but he's very versatile.

Just as good belting out an "I'm down" or "Oh Darling" as he is on softer songs like the intro of "Carry that weight", or falsetto "Girlfriend"... still waiting for him to a rap song (LOL).

That is very inaccurate and ridiculous.

In this article about the 1970 recording of Paul's brilliant great song Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, studio engineer Tim Geelan from Mix Magazine said that Paul is such a great singer and that he knows that the vocals they cut over at CBS are Paul singing live right off the floor with a rhythm section into an Electro-Voice RE20 which was a relatively new mic at the time.

http://www.beatlesbible.com/people/p...dmiral-halsey/

Also in Mark Lewisohn's excellent book which is a detailed music diary of their amazing only 8 year recording career,The Beatles Recording Sessions, where many of their recording engineers and tape operators are interviewed along with George Martin and there is a great 1987 interview with Paul in the beginning of the book,Mark explains that Paul amazingly recorded three totally different types of songs and singing styles in the same day,Yesterday,I've Just Seen A Face and his screaming rocker I'm Down and he basically said how it demonstrated how he impressively could do such different styles like that soon after the other.

Mark says in the 1965 chapter about the recordings on Monday June 14th,and Mark says, that it was a remarkable day's work, dominated by Paul McCartney and perfectly illustrating this young man's mastery of three different styles of musical composition and singing. He says what makes Paul's recording of Yesterday and he said the supreme melodic ballad all the more remarkable is that it directly followed the taping of I'm Down which Mark says is a quasi-soul/rock and roll song delivered by Paul in the most larynx-tearing,chord-shredding style imaginable.

Paul used to have a great sounding love song voice,an in between love song and rock song voice, and a great rock and even hard rock voice and he many times sang all these styles in the same song great.John was also a great singer and he had an more unique beautiful voice even when he spoke.

Paul sang great into his 50's and still good into his 50's but he sadly barely has a voice left to talk, because he kept singing rock songs live and in the studio into his 60's and now 70's.The Beatles are not only in the Song Writing Hall of Fame but the Vocal Hall of Fame too and for great valid reasons. It's really hard to believe and understand how anyone especially a genuine fan could say such nonsense.

As The All Music Guide says in their excellent Beatles biography "That it's difficult to summarize their career without restating cliches that have already been digested by tens of millions of rock fans, to start with the obvious, they were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century."

"Moreover they were among the few artists of *any* discipline that were simultaneously the best at what they did *and* the most popular at what they did." They also say as singers John Lennon and Paul McCartney were among the best and most expressive in rock.

Also on an excellent site,The Evolution of Rock Bass Playing McCartney Style by Dennnis Alstrand,Stanley Clarke,Sting,Will Lee,Billy Sheehan,George Martin and John Lennon are quoted saying what a great, melodic and influential bass player Paul has always been.

http://www.alstrand.com/evolution/evolution.html

And Wilco's John Stirratt was asked in Bass Player which bass players have had the most impact on his playing and the first thing he said was, Paul McCartney is one of the greatest bass players of all time,if you listen to what he was tracking live in the studio it's unbelievable." "With his tone and musicality he was a huge influence,he covered all of his harmonic responsibilities really well but his baselines were absolutely melodic and inventive."

http://connection.ebscohost.com/c/ar...ys-roots-wilco

In this 2010 interview the blogger says that John Stirratt has an affinity for good melodies so it's not surprising that Paul McCartney is one of his musical icons and then he quotes him saying that he's always absolutely in awe of his playing, including Paul's Beatles years.

http://audreeanne.blogspot.com/2010/...ratt-talk.html

And in an online 1977 Eric Clapton interview,Eric Clapton In His Own Words he says that there was always this game between John and George, and he said partly because John was a pretty good guitar player himself http://www.superseventies.com/ssericclapton.html .

He played live with John as a member of John's 1969 Plastic Ono Band.

And there is a great online article by musician and song writer Peter Cross,The Beatles Are The Most Creative Band Of All Time and he says that many musicians besides him recognize Paul as one of the best bass guitar players ever.He too says that John and Paul are the greatest song composers and that to say that John and Paul are among 2 of the greatest singers in rock and roll is to state the obvious, and that John,Paul and George were all excellent guitarists and that George is underrated by people not educated about music but that Eric Clapton knew better,he also says that both John and Paul played great leads as well as innovative rhythm tracks.

John Lennon co-wrote,sang and played guitar on one of David Bowie's first hits Fame in 1975 and David invited John to play guitar on his version of John's beautiful Beatles song Across The Universe.Brain May,Ozzy Osbourne, and Liam Gallagher and many more call The Beatles The Greatest Band Ever.'

http://ezinearticles.com/?The-Beatle...Time&id=222245

Also on MusicRadar Tom Petty,Joe Perry and Richie Sambora in What The Beatles Mean To Me all say how cool and great they thought The Beatles were when they first saw them on The Ed Sullivan Show in February 1964 when they were just teen boys,Richie was only 5.Tom Petty said he thought they were really really great.

Robin Zander of Cheap Trick said he's probably one of the biggest Beatles fans on the planet.Brad Whitford of Aerosmith said that a lot of that Beatles influence comes from Steven Tyler's collaboration with Mark Hudson both whom are absolute Beatles freaks and he said I guess the goal is to try and emulate probably some of the best music of the last 50 years which has to be The Beatles.
