Default UK Chart Blunder

From Ananova (don't have the link. This is the UK chart they're talking about.

Sales blunder keeps McCartney charity single out of charts

Paul McCartney's new charity single has failed to make the charts because of
a technicality.

Sales of the song Freedom weren't counted because it had From A Lover To A
Friend as its B-side.

That track had also previously been released as a single the week before and
was still in the charts.

The Official UK Chart Company told The Sun it had not even been made aware
of the second release, which had the same catalogue number as From A Lover
To a Friend.

Reminds me a bit of the way the Penny Lane/Strawberry Fields Forever double-sided A single failed to reach #1 because the two songs split radio play.

Here's another piece on this story from the NME:
http://www.nme.com/NME/External/News...,49764,00.html

**************

MACCA'S FAILED CAMPAIGN FOR 'FREEDOM'

PAUL MCCARTNEY's rush-released single 'FREEDOM' has not been listed in the UK single charts following a sales mix-up, it has been reported.

As previously reported on NME.COM, 'Freedom' was released on November 5, just one week after a first charity single, 'From A Lover To A Friend' came out to raise money for New York's fire and police departments following the terrorist strikes of September 11.

According to this morning's The Sun newspaper, 'Freedom' broke industry rules by having 'From A Lover To A Friend', which is still in the charts, as its B-side. As a result, listings officials didn't count sales of 'Freedom'.

However, a spokesperson for the Official UK Chart Company told NME.COM this morning he was unaware of any decision to make the track chart ineligible, while a UK spokesperson for McCartney is currently unavailable for comment.
