Let's IMAGINE what John would have on his iTunes playlist!
I've always wanted to do this but never hung out with enough cool John Lennon fans (until now ;-) to be able to attempt it. I sometimes do a lot of 'what if?' scenario thinking. You know, 'what if John had survived and was HERE with all of us, living and breathing and doing his thing?' And I then start to think what he'd be doing, where he'd be (possibly) living or touring and then of course what bands/music he'd be into.
So this prompted me to create a thread where all of US try to assume what John's iTunes playlist would consist of. Songs he would be shuffling through on a daily basis.
It's all in good fun, but since I want it to be sort of a game, here are the rules:
1. Only ONE YouTube video/Song link per thread
2. There MUST be an explanation for the video or song as to WHY John would have it on his playlist- even a quote would be nice, or some kind of reason on your part
3. type the name of the artist and song in the Title Field (hibgal requires this in her thread and I think it makes it more organized)
So... the story goes that Kurt stayed up all night listening to Meet the Beatles and the next day he wrote this song. John had a big ego, as we all know, so he would've dug this song, which has a Lennonesque "horizontal melodic pattern" (as Ian MacDonald would say ).
I just love this song... and I think John would've too.

Kurt's guitar style was very indicative of John's. This song reminds me of Lennon and the lyrics have that mixture of vulnerable resentment...great choice!

Yes, I took the predictable route with this one. I intend to get very imaginative and assume to the max, but I'll throw in the obvious ones because I believe John was from a generation where you basically stuck with the music that inspired you as a songwriter. John was a huge fan of Marley, and frankly I would be remiss to leave him out...

Having a wife like Yoko and a son like Sean, I imagine John would be helluva tuned into the indie movement- and he would no doubt respect many of these artists. I think he would love Karen O and even make the obligatory Yoko comparisons. This would be a fun song for him, and he could sing along to this infectious chorus while he...walks.

Heck yeah I'm going to take the sentimental route. John could never NOT have this included on his playlist. This song started it all for him and his partner and, well, Eddie was a rock and roll hero to him. And we know how John loved his rock and roll.

Now, just take everything after the equal sign and place it between these tags: [ tube][ /tube]... but remove the spaces. (I had to put them in because a blank video screen will appear without them.) If a video has "&featurerelated" at the end of it, remove that. Just use the code after the equal sign.

In the waning minutes to the very last interview he ever gave, John sang a few bars of the chorus of this song - he liked the vocal, said it reminded him of good old fashioned 1950's rock vocals...
Kind of strange to think he might have had *this* tune as an earworm that day...it's such a happy, bouncy little song.
I just feel like John would have connected with this song. He had that side of him that liked to have fun, get loose, and be the life of the party...there's always that desperation in great artists where they feel they're missing something if they aren't somewhere in the scene. And the singer, Morrissey, would have probably appealed to John- the singing/delivery/lyrics. Bloody great chorus. John was a singles man after all.

I'm not sure how much John would've gotten into rap, but I'm sure there are rappers he would've appreciated... Tupac being chief among them. (And, yes, Scruffie...Eminem would've been another! ) This song makes me think of John, because he suffered a lot of loss early on as well...

I think John would've really loved The Smiths... don't think he would've been a big fan of Morrissey's public persona, but he would've appreciated his songwriting!

John had to have this on his playlist! Not only was it an old love of his- for why else would he choose to cover it (so brilliantly)- but he had to have something to remind him of what greatness Phil Spector once brought to the world. Considering his current state of...existence I'm sure John would need a pick-me-up.

I agree. It's all about the music with Morrissey not his d*ouc*e-like ways. John would side-eye him I think.

Amy Winehouse's version of Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow
John would've been an Amy Winehouse fan for sure! And Scruffie's Ronettes song made me think of this stunning heartbreaker of a performance by the late great Amy:
