Re: Trivia du Jour, Part VI
The first political poll was taken in 1824 to assess voters'
preferences in the presidential election. Citizens were asked
whom they preferred. The results, published in the Harrisburg
Pennsylvanian on July 24, 1824, gave Andrew Jackson a
commanding lead over John Quincy Adams and all others.
However, Adams won the election. (We STILL haven't gotten
the knack to this day!!)

Re: Trivia du Jour, Part VI
The longest inaugural address was deadly! Wearing no hat,
gloves, or overcoat, William Henry Harrison gave a one-hour,
40-minute speech in the cold in March 1841. In April, he
succumbed to pneumonia, the first president to die in office.

Re: Trivia du Jour, Part VI
ENIAC, the first electronic computer, appeared 50 years ago.
The original ENIAC was about 80 feet long, weighed 30 tons,
had 17,000 tubes. By comparison, a desktop computer today
can store a million times more information than an ENIAC,
and is 50,000 times faster. (Not to mention, it's also a helluva lot easier to tote to the puter repair guy!!)

When Sylvester Stallone was born, the forceps severed a nerve
in his face, partially paralyzing his lip, chin, and half of his
tongue.
