Oh, and Jello Biafra of The Dead Kennedys wrote Love Me, I'm a Liberal:

"I cried when they shot John Lennon
Tears ran down my spine"

"Life Is A Rock" from Reunion mentions Beatlemania towards the end of the song, when it begins to fade out.

I don't think there's been a mention as yet of another fine David Bowie song, "ALL THE YOUNG DUDES"... (which he produced for Mott The Hoople.)

"And my brother's back at home
With his Beatles and his Stones
He never got it off
On that Revolution stuff
What a drag!
Too many snags.."

Paul Simon's THE LATE GREAT JOHNNY ACE...

"It was the year of the Beatles,
It was the year of the Stones
It was 1964."

"On a cold December evening
I was walking through the Christmastide
When a stranger came up and asked me
If I'd heard John Lennon had died.
And the two of us went to this bar
And we stayed to close the place
And every song we played
Was for the late great Johnny Ace,
Yeah, yeah, yeah"

Even the closing "Yeah Yeah Yeah" is another Beatle reference in this context.

I have a couple of additions to this thread:

1. Wall of Voodoo - Far Side of Crazy

"I'm Pilot and Jesus
And I wept when Lennon died
Yet I envied his assailant
When I visited the shrine
I cried for all those Beatle Fans
So old so quick they grow
I follow the example to destroy
What I love most"

2. Oasis - Out of Time.
Apart from being from lennonesque anyway there is an audio piece of john at the end of the song (http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=13067)

3. John Lennon - Hamell on Trial
An acoustic punky song about finally meeting John and being told to "Fu&* Off", its really quite an enjoyable song.

4. Too Late For Goodbyes - Julian Lennon
Was never sure if it really was meant to be about his father.

5. Ballad of John and Yoko - Beatles
Seems to fit the criteria here

A line from the oasis song "Be Here Now"

"Tomorrow never knows what it doesn't know too soon"
What's The Story Morning Glory - Oasis

"'Cause it's all too much for me to take"
Roll With It - Oasis

There's a lot of Oasis ones.

So spread the news, you guys, the Beatles are most definitely a noun!
That's cool, and I have a copy of that video . . . I'll have to watch sometime!
