Close, I'm not sure about the trading for shorts bit though! Just needs more info.

Actually, it's Michael X (not Malcolm; embarassing mistake). The hair was to raise funds for the black community and given to Black Power leader Michael X February 4, 1970.

Exclamation

Not to be one to rain on someone's parade but if I read one question properly it states that:

If this is the case then "Chains" and "Boys" do not count. They were cover songs. Hate to be a stickler but that's the way I read the question.

Yeah, the question was flawed from the start, as b.f. admitted.
That's what makes this quiz so difficult (and a bit crazy) since you don't only have to find a 'right' answer but it has also to be the one in b.f.'s book!

This was actually a question on the monthly contest a few months ago.
Not sure wheter it was you or someone else who answered it correctly then. I leave it up to Beatles fan to reply wheter you got it right this time.

I'd say this is good enough answer yes! my "Book" says this:
In order to help black activist Michael X raise money for his Black House centre by auctioning off the hair.

and yeah for bearkat, I put the question down and then had a look at the answer and it happened that "chains"was in the answer, so I don't know whether the guy that made the book thought that chains was a Beatles song or it was a mistake, But it was to late to go back then!

"Part of me suspects I'm a loser.," John Lennon playboy magazine in 1980, "and part of me thinks I'm God almighty." Lennon wrote a pair of songs dealing directly with each half of this self-perception, one as a member of the Beatles, and one as a post-Beatles contribution to another artist's album. Name them both and the albums they're on?

Identify the John Lennon composition intended for inclusion in the Yellow Submarine film project but removed from most prints of the picture.

Identify the speaker: "As soon as I touched the Beatles, boom, they broke up. But it happened before. The righteous brothers, the Crystals, and the Ronettes. Give 'em [me], and they'll break up."

It's a 'newspaper taxi' so a reference to Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds.

On April 22, 1969, John Lennon legally changed his middle name. To what, and from what, did he change it?
