Default Anthology Remastered and Highlights Album June 14th

The Beatles Anthology will be released onto iTunes, in remastered form, on June 14th. There will also be a 23-track "Anthology Highlights" album with the best from all three. (I wish that was being released as a CD too!)

There is also a free radio program called Meet the Beatles you can listen to on iTunes. I wonder if remastered CDs of these will be released ever, with the Highlights album as well? [And possibly "now and then" finished?] I'd rather have a CD. I assume the original CDs will be put on sale on Amazon. I have yet to buy any, I wonder if I should or wait and see if they release remastered ones with the 2009 CD style packaging?

Jeebus. How much better can these things get? Anthology sounded incredible. I'm probably gonna have to buy all new state of the art audio equipment to hear the improvement. But aren't itunes downloads still an mp3? How is an mp3 going to be an improvement?

No idea. Word is they won't be releasing CD versions. I wonder how much better they can get too. I'm still hoping for "Now and Then" and "All for Love" to be released! [and finished?]

I bet the regular CDs go on sale soon on Amazon.com. They love competing with iTunes. I'll have to pick one or two up. I don't own the Anthologies or Naked. I'll wait to buy Naked until that is released on iTunes in the Fall/Holiday [I'm just assuming] and goes on sale on Amazon as well. Amazon is much better with deals than iTunes, both MP3 and Physical.

iTunes is AAC, encoded at 256kbps.

It's good quality for the format, better than mp3 at the same kbit/s but it's a lossy format, a compression, to create smaller file sizes, while CDs have lossless encoding.

If you watch the 5 minute video on iTunes (Features interviews with Paul, Ringo and George that must be promotional from the 90s) it plays presumably remastered anthology songs throughout, so you can hear them. They sound clear, but might not sound too different from the current CDs.

I'd be interested to know if anyone who has bought them notices much of a difference. Please let us know!

No, basically it's almost the same as an MP3, it's just a different kind of file. Super high quality (lossless) formats are like FLAC and AIFF.

Since EMI has said no CDs, I wonder if that just means right now, and they are planning CDs for Christmas? People obviously buy more CDs around the Holidays to give as gifts. Or no CDs of this ever.

My opinion is there's no need to remaster these if you're only going to release it in a download. The original releases sound absolutely fantastic. And all the liner notes and info are invaluable when listening to the discs. If you want the absolute best sounding version of this collection, get the analog vinyl.

Has anyone downloaded these? Curious if the liner notes are different from the CDs.

Good question, Dolphins.

I'll have to check on that one.

Oh i reckon that WILL happen eventually. When they've run out of things to update and remaster etc, they need something new to make a little more money! Plenty of suckers out there (like me!) that will rush out and buy.
