John wanted gay relationship with Paul?!
*sigh* I hate when I see ridiculous articles like this, but it appears some book is alleging that John wanted to have a gay relationship with Paul. I'm sure we'll all hear about this book sooner or later, so I decided to post a link to the story here. There are several websites running this story. It says Paul and Yoko are both angrily denying it, which I think is a good thing. Seriously, is there not enough intrigue in what actually happened in the Beatles story? Why do people have to make up these ridiculous things?

Today's top gossip:
The late John Lennon apparently wanted a gay relationship with his Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney.
A new book, 'John Lennon: The Life', also alleges that Lennon fantasised about sleeping with his own mother.
Yoko Ono and McCartney are furious at the claims, written by "respected Beatles author" Philip Norman. A source has said: "Both Sir Paul and Yoko are extremely angry and upset".

Yeah, he hints at that in Shout. It's a great book (I'm re-reading it now), but the ridiculous claims like that really do let it down. Because of this, I don't think I'll read the book, even though I do like Norman.

I would think/hope Philip Norman would still have more to tell than this kind of things.

I think it's a crock of bull.
In late 1963 John beat up that DJ Bob Wooler for even suggesting that he [John] was sexually attracted to men. Paul McCartney even said there was nothing to that claim. In his words, he knew John well (as we all know) and, according to him, if John had such feelings for other men, they would have emerged in unguarded, unchecked moments.
Devil's radio, plain and simple. The rumor is just that - an unsubstantiated rumor.

LOL slashers like myself have believed this and discussed this for YEARS. It is hard to believe that NONE of you have ever noticed how John and Paul look at each other in photos? Never noticed the little messages to each other in songs? Never noticed how very much they touched each other? What of the interview where Paul said if John came back for a day he'd spend the day in bed with him? C'mon, its not that shocking. It's much more shocking about the inscest part, and that is something that is supposedly on audio tape said by John. Nobody seems to blink when people say Brian had love for John, why couldn't John and Paul have love for each other? They were awfully close!! *runs out of thread giggling*

I think people look at the intriguing and somewhat complex friendship of Paul and John and use that as proof that there was "something else". Of course they loved each other, but I don't believe it was as anything more than friends.
As for the thing about John and his mom, I just don't know. If he indeed had those thoughts, I'm likely to believe it was because of some psychological thing about how she left him and stuff. John, as we all know, was very complicated!
There's my sixpence.
Each.
In advance.

Well, we'll never really know one way or another.
I think its silly when people take things like this and blow them up so much. So what if John DID had some bisexual or gay feelings for Paul?? It wouldn't have made him any less of a human, or any less of an incredibly talented artist, IF (and thats a big if) he did.
However I do think, that because they were so incredibly close and had such a strong degree of trust, IF John ever DID experiment with or think about experimenting with someone it would probably have been Paul because of the trust they had.
However at this point, I think its silly to make such a huge fuss made over this about weather or not anything happened between them.
Edited: IF anything did happen it was really only something that concerned the two of them, so why should we all make a big fuss?
And, if this story was just made up to get more press for the book (which seems the most likely, but how would I know) then I think its a very low thing to do as John isn't here to give his side of things.

I agree that the incest thing is more shocking than the claim that he wanted Paul's bones but I still don't believe that he did!

Why is it whenever men are kind toward one another and show a gentle side, there are those who leap to the conclusion that they are gay?
Leo made some good points above. There is absolutely nothing under the sun to support the myth that any Fab was gay.

It's even made the news in New Zealand:
Yoko fumes over Lennon 'gay' claims
http://www.stuff.co.nz/4693562a1860.html
Yoko Ono is reportedly outraged about a controversial new book that claims late Beatles star John Lennon had gay fantasies about Sir Paul McCartney.
Respected Beatles author Philip Norman alleges in new book John Lennon: The Life that the musician wanted a sexual relationship with his bandmate Paul and also fantasised about sleeping with his own mother Julia, leaving Paul and the late Beatle’s wife Yoko Ono furious.
Both Yoko and Paul agreed to be interviewed for the book but are now distancing themselves from it and Yoko has withdrawn her endorsement.
A source revealed: "Both Sir Paul and Yoko are extremely angry and upset.'
It was recently rumoured that filmmaker Sam Taylor-Wood is planning to direct a biopic focusing on the early life of the late Beatle and his relationship with his estranged mother.
The film is set during John's teenage years, at the point where Julia came back into his life - after he was raised by her step-sister Mimi - and began to influence his future with her love of music.
It then follows the musical legend as he forms The Quarrymen with friends Paul and George Harrison, the band they were involved with before The Beatles.
The film has been written by Matt Greenhalgh, who won a Bafta award for his work on the Joy Division movie Control and will be produced by Robert Bernstein.
John was shot dead aged 40 in 1980 by deranged fan Mark Chapman as he entered the Dakota building in New York.

Never mind the gay claims - It's this thing with his mother. So stupid! It doesn't sound like anything he would say at all.

I have never much liked Philip Norman's writing. I think Shout is nowhere near as good as everyone makes out it is. It is way down the list on my favourite Beatle books.
Also I don't like the way he is so anti-Ringo and so "Paul loves himself too much". I saw an interview with him on you tube once that I think displayed a minor attitude problem.

Isn't it abominable what author's will do to sell a book? There's been so much written about the Beatles that rather than be creative and find a fresh angle they drudge up the tiniest of anomolies and blow them up into some salacious revelation all for a buck.
Count me disgusted and out!
Oh and that supposed "new" audio of John making an audio journal... that's been making the rounds as a boot for years!
