1967....'missing' photo session...?
Hi all,
Just joined the forum and like anyone else infatuated with the Fabs I tend to devour any good photos when they turn up, especially the rarer ones . . . . was wondering if anyone can help me in my search for certain photos in particular . . . . in May '67, they did a photo session in Hyde Park dressed up in their latest psychedelic gear (Ringo and Paul are wearing capes while Johns got his famous sporran hung round his waist), turning up in Johns newly repainted Rolls Royce, I have a handful of these pics culled from magazines over ten years ago but haven't seen any more since then. In one of the shots they're walking towards the camera and it looks like you can see Mal and Brian Epstein in the background and I'm sure I read somewhere (wish I could remember where it was!) that it took place the day before the Pepper launch knees up at Epsteins place on 20th May. I cut the pics out of the magazines and stuck them in a scrapbook with a few others from '67 - I'd love to see some more if anyone knows of them......cheers!

I know I've seen one of these pics, it's a good one, it's in the Complete Beatles movie.

Is this one of the photos that you are referring to? If so, I have seen this pic in the rockumentary, "The Compleat Beatles."
Here is another:
The info was that on May 18, 1967, The Beatles had a photo session in Hyde Park with Marvin Lichtner from Time Magazine. Some of these amazing photos can be seen in The Beatles Monthly Book no. 49. Later that day Paul and John supplied backing vocals on The Rolling Stones track, 'We Love You'.

Hi & welcome to the forum! There are many here who are like you! Perhaps there will be more help coming to the rescue. Unfortunately I don't think I have any from this day if it's the day Paulrus referred to.

Thanks for your replies all
Paulrus - yes, those are two of the photos I already have (cut from magazines) in my tatty old scrapbook! 18th May sounds right, and silly me, I got the date of the Pepper launch party wrong
I have a 'thing' for all things 1967, especially anything to do with the Fabs, Stones, Mini Coopers etc, a trawl of the net now and again brings up the odd gem. If I can get the scrapbook onto the scanner (it's A3 size!) I'll try and scan a few of these '67 pics.....
Thanks again, what a cracking forum this is

Nice pics G.G.G,J, I love all the Beatles different eras but end of 60's were great for the flamboyant clothing, they were really "out there" then!

Cheers 'O', the original pic is tiny and I wasn't sure how it would look on here, the original pic is tiny abd I wasn't sure if would be aby good on here but it does give you a flavour of what happened that day, all the Beatles bar Paul arrived in Johns psychedelic Roller, Paul turned up in another flash motor, driven by Terry Doran (theres a shot of them leaving Pauls gaff in Cavendish Avenue in one 'Tracks' snapshot books which I bought off Amazon this week).
I found a single solitary colour shot from this session via google yesterday too, one I've never seen before.......it shows John striding along with his flowery shirt, sporran and a bright red tunic jacket, with a glimpse of Paul and Ringo in their capes, I'll post it tomorrow when I've got more time

Date mystery
Paul was driven to the location by Terry Doran, while the three others arrived from the suburbs in John Lennon's psychedelically painted Rolls Royce. Or did they? The car had recently been painted, so this may have been one of it's first outings in the new design - or is it too early? In fact, the invoice for the work and materials used are dated May 24th. The artist responsible for the painting, Steve Weaver worked on the car over at J.P. Fallon Painters, and there are photos of the car being unveiled on May 26th, so the inclusion of the photo here is a puzzle.

It's always puzzled me too, but I've seen another (colour) shot of the Rolls in the same spot at Hyde Park (taken from a slightly different angle, I think it was in an Americam magazine) with John, George, Ringo and Mal Evans all getting out dressed in the same clothes as the other photos above, it's definitely from the same session. Maybe the Rolls went back to Fallons for some remedial work the following week . . . ?
