Hey thanks that is a cool link. (from PLG Radio)

The song reminds me of Broad Way Street in a way.

I find the outro very messy, like a demo.

Isn't that Ritchie on the tools?

This is a great song, and it sounds like it was Ringo on drums. We can hope a good piece of work will be coming out with "Driving Rain". Thanks for the link. It was a truly beautiful song.

But what does it mean?? Does anyone have an interpretation? It is so complex! Even the title: From A Lover To A Friend?! What does that mean? Is Paul the Lover & Linda the Friend?

"Take your own advice; let me love again..."

I just have in mind the last line, (the others weren't all understandable by me, sorry)

From a Lover to a Friend
Let Me Love Again...

it speaks itself, and it wasn't something I wanted to hear...

Thanx a lot for the listen. I've been looking for the new songs on the net and finally found this sweet tasting preview. What a bunch of losers that were interviewing the man! Paul's song was sweet, lovely, sad and wonderful. I must say though that I think he has been poorly advised to release it as a single. I can't see that it has enough of a commercial potential to seell or be played on the radio a lot. Being a McCartney fan, I can appreciate it as an endearing song and I can see that the people who know the man will have liked the song. This does NOT however imply that it has any hit potential!

Hey! The first person I've come upon who feels the same as I do! I don't think it's very "single-y," yet I've personally grown to like it quite a lot in the last week.

Yeah you're right, it kinda grows on you, I started out not being very fond of it and I found myself singing it earlier today.

Perhaps the 'friend' is whoever's listening to the song, maybe whoever doubts his new love for Heather... and he just wants a chance to love again, same as anyone would... and thus "let me love again" is his message.

Exactly! Even after having listened to the other songs (among them, I really prefer Your Way), the one I could remeber and I could sing while I was in car today, was From a Lover to a Friend... human mind is very strange! And Paul seems to know well the psyche of the human kind, choosing it as the first single....

YES! MWAH! You guys are all right!

I love the interpretation that the Friend is us, the public at large! That makes magnificent sense!

I always, everyday, wake up with a song in my head and this morning it was From A Lover To A Friend! It reminds me of the beautiful words of someone who refers to Paul's melodies as part of the human conscience; they are so indelibly and universally beautiful...

It just may fly as a single after all!!!

The song is not quite a "single". In fact, it doesn't sound like a song that could top the charts or anything, it's just a strong album track, IMHO. And I really liked NWM's interpretation of the song. It makes complete sense.

Yes, Friend could also be the McCartney children given their resistance toward Heather's age and the simple fact that she's not their Mum.

Probably the more likely interpretation I'm thinking now.

Could very well be, the beauty of a song like that is the fact that it's open to so many different interpretations. I'm sure we'll get Paul's interpretation soon too once he starts talking about all of his new songs.

The song is a vintage McCartney tune. I'm not too fond of the drumwork and I agree with everyone that says that it's not really "single potential" but I do love the lyrics. I guess it just has to grow on me.

I believe I read somewhere that Paul explained that "From A Lover To A Friend" is a peaceful message to Linda and reference to Heather. Thus, the "Lover" (Linda) and the "Friend" (Heather).

BTW, welcome to Beatlelinks, Wogew.

Don't fancy Ringo's drumming? (assuming it is him on drums).
