Songs The Beatles gave away
I was just thinking how many great songs they gave away to other bands/artists...
I think "Woman" and "World Without Love" (Peter & Gordon) and
"Come and Get It" (Badfinger) would have been big hits and become classic Beatles songs.
Has anyone ever heard "Bad To Me" and "I'm In Love"?!
They would have been beautiful Beatles songs!
Here's a complete list:

I love "I'm in Love" and honestly, listening to the demo version with John at the piano and then listening to the Fourmost doing it... there's no comparison. I don't want to say that these other artists ruined the Beatles songs, but I think the Beatles could have done it so much better!!! :)

I've heard The Beatles version of "That Means A Lot" - not a keeper, I would say.
But I love most of the other early give aways.

I think "That Means A Lot", "If You've Got Trouble" and "I'll Be On My Way" are nothing special, but still good tunes.
They would have fitted perfectly on Beatles For Sale... they sound like "What You're Doing" and "Every Little Thing".
And I also agree John's piano demo version of "I'm In Love" is alot more honest and sentimental than The Fourmost and Billy J Kramer & The Dakotas versions.

I love the demo for "Bad to Me" and I definitely could have seen the Beatles releasing a great version of that.
"Come and Get It" is a great song as well, although I think it sounds more like something Paul would've released during the 70's, rather than the Beatles doing it. Imo Paul would've pulled it off better solo... it doesn't sound quite as "Beatle-y" to me.

I liked "A World Without Love" the 1st time I heard it, not knowing it was a Lennon/McCartney song. "I'll Be On My Way" and "Come And Get It" are great too.
"Penina" (song 26 on the list) was written by Paul in 1968, in my country, Portugal.
One night, at the hotel he was staying, and after a few drinks Paul started jamming with the guest band, and quickly the melody of Penina came up.
He gave it to that band, called Jota Herre, who recorded it, with no commercial success.
A few months later, one of portuguese top singers at the time, Carlos Mendes, recorded it, and it became the standard recording of the song.
I have it on CD, and can upload it, if anyone is interested.

"It's For You" was a really artsy little song for the early period in which John and Paul wrote it. They gave it to Cilla Black, and then much later, Three Dog Night re-cut it in one of the most inventive cover versions ever.

I just discovered two more "Beatles" songs today!

"Bad to Me" would have made a terrific Beatles song for an album like With the Beatles, IMO. Probably my favorite "song The Beatles gave away".
