Default Last.fm

Does anyone else here visit this website? It's an online radio site, but it has a feature where, with a plug-in it provides, you can track the music you play on your media player. I've been using it for a couple months and here's what it's tracked of my listening habits (just top tens; random plays and music I've deliberately played):

Top Artists:
1The Beatles
772
2George Harrison
102
3Pink Floyd
100
4The Rolling Stones
87
5John Lennon
83
6The Seeds
73
7Wings
71
8Paul McCartney
64
9Cream
62
10The Who
52

Top Albums:
1The Beatles - Live at the BBC
55
2The Beatles - Anthology 1
51
3The Beatles - The Beatles
46
4The Seeds - Future
43
5George Harrison - All Things Must Pass
35
6The Beatles - Anthology 3
34
7Cream - BBC Sessions
33
8The Beatles - Beatles for Sale
31
9The Beatles - With the Beatles
28
10The Beatles - Rubber Soul
26
10The Seeds - Pushin' Too Hard
26

I can't get the list of Top Ten Tracks to load. Maybe I'll post it later.

Well, I downloaded this and have been tracking my plays for nearly a week now. Pretty interesting. About half of this so far is the result of having my library on my work computer on random play. Here are the top artists so far:

1 The Beatles (69)
2 Jimmy Cliff (39)
3 the pillows (25)
4 George Harrison (15)
4 OK Go (15)
6 Ween (7)
7 The Rutles (6)
7 Animaniacs (6)
9 Beck (5)
9 The Knack (5)

No top albums yet, I apparently haven't been on long enough for this calculation.

The pillows (lowercase actually) are a Japanese band that do some great power pop. They've got an album that has been described as Beatlesesque (not surprisingly recorded following a trip to England) and another that has a strong Pixies sound.

OK Go is a new band out of Chicago that recently was signed by Capitol. They are best known for their low-cost videos they put up on Youtube (without Capitol's permission). You may know the treadmill video (it was actually relinked a few days ago in the Random Videos thread). The best description I've seen about them is "living catnip".

Ween (a two-some of fictional brothers) really came out of the 90s college scene and are best known for some very crude and highly un-PC shock rock. But if you ignore many of those, their other songs are very well crafted eclectic stuff with some nice musicianship. I haven't listened to their albums much lately, but for some reason the random play in iTunes hits on them a lot.

That was the band I was in right out of high school. My best friend played guitar, my older brother played drums and I played bass on a synthesizer I'd bought from another friend. We started off doing covers of classics (Van Halen, Zeppelin, etc.) and slowly we started making up our own stuff (instrumental jazzy jams). But we all grew up and drifted apart. We made our own recordings and last year I copied them to mp3 and have them on my computer's hard drive. Way too many of the tracks randomly played last week. We definitely did not take the rock world by storm. But it's fun to listen to them at times and reminisce of those silly times.

No, you may not listen to them. No one gets to listen to them but three very bad, very poor, not very talented 'musicians'

Just signed up, but haven't yet scrobbled enough to get meaningful stats (I mean, I haven't even played any Beatles yet!).

Do you folks use the same screen names over there that you do here? For last.fm purposes, I am "UkeleleBlues." I already think its lame, but that's the way it goes. I guess that's why I used my real name here. If only I could get it out of all-caps.

Signed up a few days ago. I think I need to broaden my musical tastes so I like searching around and seeing what others are listening too.

It seems like it takes awhile for the site to accumulate enough listening data for its services to really kick in. I signed up on sunday, and I am still in a kind of limbo, which is fine. Are you using "Lady Madonna" as your username there?

Here's my rolling 3-month list of artists. (The problem I have is that I can't always listen to music at work, so that's why the play totals seem a bit low for 3 months of listening.)

1 The Beatles….. 257
2 OK Go….. 74
3 John Lennon….. 69
4 the pillows….. 49
4 George Harrison….. 49
6 Los Tres….. 42
7 Maná….. 35
8 Los Rodríguez….. 25
9 Dada….. 12
10 Sugar….. 10

Tell us more about OK Go. or the Pillows. They are not familiar to me.

Tony

P.S. Okay, now I feel stupid, because you already told us all about OK Go and the Pillows up above, and did I read your posts already? Yes, yes I had. Did I remember that. No. No I did not.

I love that treadmill video. So are they the guys who did the song too? that is outstanding.
