Default Beatles catalogue may be online as soon as February; remastered CD's may also be soon

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...___report.html

Quote:
A deal between Apple Inc. and Apple Corps to bring the legendary music catalog of The Beatles to iTunes could see an announcement in the form of a Super Bowl commercial, according to a report published Wednesday.

Citing "sources with knowledge of the project," the Toronto Sun said remastered tracks from the British Fab Four's United Kingdom CD back catalogue are slated to be made available for downloading from Apple's iTunes Store as soon as next month.

Apple plans a "special" announcement scheduled for a Super Bowl commercial on Feb. 4, which may give more indication as to where the new remastered CDs will debut first, the paper said.

Echoing a report from Tuesday, the Sun also reported that the arrangement between the two Apples is for an exclusive three-month restricted distribution deal through iTunes that would likely prolong the release the actual remastered CDs.

Tuesday's report suggested that Apple Corps would make at least some of the British rock group's music collection available through iTunes on Valentine's Day, providing a convenient means of promoting the band's recent Cirque du Soleil project, Love.

Apple Corps and UK record label EMI reportedly declined to comment on the report.

Cool. That would be nice, although having that just on iTunes wouldnt help me much. Plus a "special announcement" could mean anything. Is there any more evidence for this?

I read the exact same thing last year. There was going to be a 'special announcement' during the super bowl etc.

Exactly.

Besides, what good does having them on iTunes do for us? They should release them subsequently; I know some people just want a couple of personal favorites, but why would an actual Beatles fan care that they can legally download the full albums?

And they'd better not do any online-exclusive bonus tracks like a few of the Paul and George albums do (especially since you have to buy the full album to get them).

Once they announce the CDs I'll definitely pick them all up but I'm not in a huge rush. We should get together with other Beatles forums and whatnot and pick one of the remasters to all buy the first week to get it to #1.

It is only commercially wise to release the stuff first on iTunes. Yes, real fans want to hold the disc in their hands and feel the euphory.

Learning from past experiences, I believe that fans better be ready to buy the remasters about five times once they become available.

I agree with everyone here. Rumors like this were going around this time last year. I'll believe it when I see it.

The proof is in the Yorkshire pudding. I'll believe it once the proofs are in.
