Plainly neither of her marriages were marriages made in heaven. That works both ways, for the gentlemen as well.

I think in the case of George, since both were very young (she was 18 in 1964 and George just turned 21 on the set of A Hard Day's Night, George was acting largely on physical attraction. In time when they started drifting apart, their interests, needs and visions had changed to the point that neither included the other. I have no doubt it was traumatic for Pattie; I always thought she was a tragic figure. I do feel sorry for her. In the case of Eric, we know his feelings were largely based on attraction and when he got to know her, he wanted to be with her all the more. Sadly, as we know, that union too dissolved.

Since the question came up, many say they'd pick George, no contest. I would not pick either; you have to find and get to know who that right person for you is. You have to feel that person is your soul mate. You have to love talking to AND listening to that person and wanting them to be a very integral part of your life.
With a love like that, you know you should be glad, yeah, yeah, yeah!-- Beatles, 1963

If I seem to act unkind, it's only me, it's not my mind. -- George Harrison, 1966
