McCartney fans hail 'Mills' song

Sir Paul has said that all characters in his songs are made up
Fans of Sir Paul McCartney have been claiming a track on his latest album Memory Almost Full is about his break-up from ex-wife Heather Mills.

Mister Bellamy, the sixth track on the album, is an anagram of "Mills betray me" and fans on internet forums say it is about his divorce.

They cite lines including "I'm not coming down, no matter what you do".

Last year, Sir Paul, 65, said of characters on his songs: "I just make them up."

On Monday, it was revealed that Mills had been awarded 24.3m in her divorce settlement with Sir Paul.

Other lines in Mr Bellamy include: "No-one to tell me what to do, no-one to hold my hand."

One fan wrote on an internet forum: "Paul writes metaphorically.

Who is Mr Bellamy? Well, I never know who these people are
Paul McCartney speaking last June

"He can write a song about his relationship with Heather without actually saying the words Heather, wife, divorce or mistrust."

Another wrote: "Macca wouldn't be so blunt as to write a song specifically about someone, or a situation, and then say so, but you'd have to be a fool not to understand that he does write these songs."

Speaking in a video clip on the Memory Almost Full website last year, Sir Paul said: "Who is Mr Bellamy? Well, I never know who these people are.

"Who is Chuck and Dave from When I'm 64? Who is Eleanor Rigby? Who is Desmond and Molly from Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da? I don't know, I just make them up."

He added: "I like giving characters names and just making them up and trying to make them fit."
