Default George Harrison and Family For Sale

I posted this at my news community, but I thought I'd post it here as well.

Recently, in George Harrison news I learned on tumblr about personal items of the Harrison family going to be sold. These items being auctioned by Maverick Music include never before seen family photos, and videos of the Harrison family in Maui. The Harrison family is unaware of these items being in the possession of this seller and that they are being put up for auction.

There's been a petition created by fans of George for the return of these items to Dhani and Olivia. They feel that since George was such a private person, and that these pictures and videos weren't taken with the intent of being made public that they should be given back to Dhani and Olivia.

I think the items should be returned to Olivia and Dhani. If the specifics of this story are true. I'm inclined to believe that it's possible the person in possession of these items might not have obtained them honestly. Especially if, as the seller claims that Dhani and Olivia don't know he has them.

In March, Paul McCartney took legal action against the family of Rose Martin for the return of items that they claim Linda McCartney gave to Rose. The family wants to sell them, and Paul wants those items returned to him as he believes Linda didn't give them away. This isn't exactly the same situation, but it's somewhat similar.

What do you think about all of this?

I think it's an invasion of privacy and those pictures should definitely go to Olivia and Dhani. I think Paul's issue with the clothing was really about privacy too.

"Returned to Olivia and Dhani" I don't understand. Do these pictures belong to them legally or do you think that simply because they're family photos they shouldn't be made available to the public?

It's an interesting situation. As many items directly related to the Beatles do end up at auction. Some of these personal items switch plenty of hands over the years without Paul and Ringo and John and George's surviving family members never being none the wiser until it becomes news. I wonder what/if any rights they have to this stuff, especially if it's obtained in a 'questionable' manner.

It depends. If these items were obtained in a questionable manner, then I do think that the Harrison's should have the chance to buy them back. If through some unseen circumstances the seller of these items truly did stumble onto them through dumb luck then there isn't that same sense of obligation to return them to Dhani and Olivia. For me, I guess it comes down to how the items came into the seller's possession. I was curious to know what other people thought of this situation, as I go back and forth on what I think on this story. What's your take on all of this?

Well, the way that Olivia is rewriting George from a regular bloke to St George, remember the movie, any information out there that she's not had her finger on should be preserved. Besides, she's got the money. If she absolutely wants it she can pay for it.

She can if she wants. Probably buy it for a fairly reasonable/low price. I don't know what became the outcome of all of this because I haven't heard or read anything on it since the story initially came out.
