Question peace

it seems maybe when vietnam was going on there was a greater outcry about the war. it seems now maybe that we have great apathy. i believe if lessons arenot learned and kept they get repeated. iraq is another vietnam. no end in sight. no game plan. and agin our boys die. does anyone think our voices have been too long silent?

Are there fewer people against the war or is it just the media not reporting the opposing voices?

I think it's just alot of not caring, at least where I live. In my age group I'm probably the only person who's really comitted to peace and the like. The other kids are just consumed with their anime and their soccer (er-football) teams.

I can't really protest injustice all alone in the street. But I can try to send my non-violent message out online. However it seems most of the political-minded people I've encountered are quite ardently pro-war.

But the news does have something to do with it, there's a lot of glorification on certain American channels. And I've met so many kids online who are just chomping at the bit to get out there and kill other kids-kids just like them but for their culture and background. I wish more people would see that it's not sexy or glorious to go off and kill.

I think it is a case of the voices of opposition to the war are not getting as much coverage. My town alone has had many anti-war marches (how do I know - I was there), candle light vigils and peace rallies. Believe me, we, those who are against the war are not the minority that we may seem.

From what i have seen in the American media they are very choosy about what they tell you compared to say the BBC, however there is scare mongering on both sides of the atlantic, muslims are bad and evil, the middle east is a scary place full off barbaric, less than human people, its all bollocks of course. Both our governments want us to live in fear so they exaggerate alot of stuff, a fearful country is easier to manipulate to believing what you tell them, yes of course there are evil extremist terrorists without a doubt however they are a minority and most muslims and middle eastern people are lovely.

The west have to got to get into their heads that we are by no means the best and how we live is by no means the best, how dare we tell the rest of the world how to live.

I say people need to see beyond the brainwash tripe they put in the media and get onto the streets and say No, Not In Our Name!!!

another problem is you cant compare this Iraq war to Veitnam
over 33,000 soldiers lost their lifes and many if not most were drafted against their will to go fight.
Iraq has had 2,500 plus deaths and the number will grow with time
But all these soldiers are volunteer.

But yes there is so much apathy I hope Americans wont just sit there and watch Television as they lose the country they love to Thieves and liars.
I wish our soldiers can come home so that the number wont go up too 33k like in Veitnam
But sadly warpresident Bush has washed his hands of it and said its not his problem anymore so the next president has to make the decision. SO expect 3 more years at least of death and destruction in Iraq.

How anyone could send people off to kill and die and still sleep at night is beyond me.

Cool peace

i do think peace peple are not covered in media nd we ahve greta apathy. we went in for the wrong reasons and no game paln as to what to do or how to gte out when done i feel bad for however inherits it cause it will be a mess to be sure.we need to care for our own provide heatlh care for all good schools and college for all and food and housing none of our own should live in misery then we can do things outside but not police the world be peacemakers donate food technology medicine and all i teach a world religion class and i try to stress understanding i feel prejudice comes from fear and ignorance so i teach te 5 major faiths and what theyare about so my students can have respect for others and not fear them i am ever hopeful yes there are those who seek to do violence but i think theya re the minority

I'm quite curious as to whether ANYONE is going to want to run for president next term. They'll be busy for the next four years just trying to clean up our mess!

You can message me there, here or email me at cardboard.canvas@yahoo.com if you're interested or know anyone who is interested. We really need a lot of help...any kind of help.

I can see definate parallels between Iraq and Vietnam. OK so the death toll isn't so big - yet! But there are too many similarities and I'm greatly concerened.

We all should be. I'm not even American but anything they do affects Canada too, we have troops in Afghanistan and if anything it'll encourgae attacks on us, not stop them.

Well Russia was over there for 10 years fighting the Iraq's, they finally gave up and left all their trucks, tanks etc; all behind, the Russians said there were too many places that they could hide in Iraq and just left!

Do you mean Afghanistan? The Soviet Union went into Afghanistan. That's where Osama Bin Laden got his start as a soldier.
